Tooth care begins at birth

Tooth care begins at birth
Colorado dental experts are trying to persuade young parents that tooth care begins at birth.

Pediatric Dentistry Colorado Springs is recommending some tips on how to keep your baby’s teeth and gums healthy.

Good oral health from an early age can help children to grow into a strong teenager and a healthy adult. Baby teeth can get cavities and provide the route through which adult teeth emerge, so they need to be protected.

Parents should begin their baby’s dental care by wiping gums with a soft damp cloth after feeding. Even if the child has no teeth. This stops harmful bacteria feeding residues that maybe left on the gums.

The baby should have its first dental appointment within six months of its first tooth emerging. Dentists recommend that at this point parents should use a soft child’s toothbrush, which has been soaked in warm water, and a small amount of toothpaste to begin cleaning the teeth.

It is good to familiarize your child with a dentist at a young age as it means they will be less likely to be reluctant to visit the dentist and family dentists will know your child’s whole dental history.

When your child becomes old enough to begin using an adult toothbrush, around seven-years-old, schedule two appointments a year with your dentist to make sure the child gets the care it needs. This might be orthodontic or fluoride treatments or simply a recommendation to floss more and a swift polish. Whatever the situation, regular visits help keep your child’s teeth stay in top condition and give you peace of mind.

Finally, remember to replace your toothbrush every three months.
