Three new practices boost dental care in Northern Ireland

Three new practices are opening their doors to patients across County Tyrone.

The new surgeries are opening as part of a multi-million pound investment supported by the Health Service; 17 million pounds has been invested in the area, with the contract for dental care in the area managed by Oasis Dental Care.

Since the contract was awarded to Oasis Dental Care, they have set about establishing plans to improve access to health service dental care in the Tyrone area. They planned to build three new practices and the building work has now finished and the surgeries are ready to welcome new patients.

The new practices are located in Dungannon, Omagh and Strabane; they will provide a range of services for local people and make a dramatic improvement to dental care in the area. It is estimated that thousands of patients will benefit from the new practices; patients will now be able to enjoy the best possible standards of dental care without travelling far from their home or having to wait several months for an appointment.

The investment from the health service has also created new jobs for 38 health service dentists across Northern Ireland; these new roles have been created to target areas where provision is poor and waiting lists are unacceptably long. Two new practices in Londonderry and Enniskillen have also recently opened; in total, more than fifty thousand patients will be able to benefit from the new measures that have been put into place over the course of the last few months.

While authorities in the area are delighted with the steps being taken in Tyrone, they also recognise that further investment is needed to ensure everyone has access to health service dental care. It is hoped that continued financial support in the area will enable more dentists to practise and more patients to receive first-rate health service dental care.
