Rap Star Lil Wayne granted delayed jail sentence due to dental problems

World renowned rap star, Lil Wayne, has had his jail term delayed so that he can undergo dental surgery.

The rapper, who is 27 years old, was set to begin a twelve month jail sentence on Tuesday 9th February; however he appeared in a Manhattan court, alongside his managers and legal representatives to ask for his sentence to be delayed to allow him to have dental treatment for a cracked tooth. Initially, he asked for the jail term to be postponed until the 27th February; however, Judge Charles Soloman has now re-scheduled the start date to the 2nd March. The Judge, who has refused to delay the start of the sentence any further after this incident, agreed that the rapper would receive better quality care at his usual practice in Miami, than in prison.

Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr, is serving time after he was arrested and detained by police following the discovery of a loaded weapon in his tour bus in July 2007. The weapon, which was identified as a 40-caliber handgun, had been bought by Carter’s manager who had a licence for the gun; however, at the time of the inspection, the gun was found onboard the tour bus in the illegal possession of the US chart singer. Carter pleaded guilty to the charges in October last year.

Lil Wayne is set to undergo surgery to repair the broken tooth on the 12th February in Miami; he will then be allowed time to rest and recover before he starts his jail term. The star, who is a father of four young children, bade farewell to his fans yesterday in an emotional video which thanked fans for their love and support.
