Police in London, Ontario have arrested and charged a man for practising dentistry without a valid license.
The local police force had teamed up with the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario to investigate claims that a man in the area had been treating patients without a license. Subsequently, police obtained a search warrant and arrested a 46 year old man at his home in London. The man in question has been named as Humberto Salano Rosania.
Mr Rosania has been charged with counts of fraud and unlawfully causing harm to the body; the full repercussions of his actions will not be known until patients have been tracked down and the health authorities have carried out a full investigation. Police have notified the London Middlesex Health Unit about the arrest.
Early reports have suggested there may be a risk of infection as the unlicensed dentist did not have the necessary equipment to sterilise instruments and his home was clearly not a sterile environment. Consequently, the health unit will want to obtain further information regarding the kind of procedures and treatments that Mr Rosania has carried out and make sure patients have not been infected during treatment.
