North Yorkshire residents still on lengthy waiting lists

Waiting lists are still unacceptably long across North Yorkshire, according to figures published by NHS North Yorkshire and York.

The figures, which have recently been released, reveal up to eleven thousand patients are struggling to find an NHS dentist in their local area. Despite the NHS finding dental places for thousands of patients in North Yorkshire since this time last year, the demand for places is still far outweighing the supply and the resulting waiting list is shockingly long.

Recently, the local NHS Primary care Trust has made a conscious effort to tackle the problem of dental provision in the area by ploughing millions of pounds into the region; subsequently, new practices have been opened in addition to existing clinics expanding their services. In the coming weeks another new practice is set to open in Whitby; this will provide five thousand dental places.

Despite the efforts of the NHS the fact remains that thousands of patients are still having troubles finding an NHS dentist; consequently, the issue will be brought in front of the health overview and scrutiny committee managed by the City of York Council.

Residents in the area that are struggling to find NHS dental care are urged to contact their local Primary Care Trust or join the NHS database; the database has found places for over eleven thousand patients since it was introduced back in 2005. The NHS has suggested that investment in the area will continue and a further 2.3 million pounds has been pledged to increase provision in the county; it is hoped that over the course of the next two years, the issue of waiting lists will be completely resolved and the people of North Yorkshire will benefit from the best possible standards of dental care.
