A dentist from Jupiter has completed an amazing feat by running marathons in every state. Most people are overjoyed when they complete one gruelling marathon, but Shelby Trail has completed 53 marathons.
Shelby was supported along the way by runners from the 50 States Marathon Club, a group of around 3,000 runners, which gathers to encourage runners to complete the goal of running marathons in every state.
Shelby completed the incredible challenge in April this year, running the Big Sur International Marathon in Monterey, California; she chose the race as her last due to the stunning scenery, as the route follows the ocean.
Shelby started running to conquer stress and open her mind and she ran her first marathon with sister, Kristi, in Hawaii in 2002 to raise money for stroke research in memory of her father, who passed away a year earlier.
Shelby said that running is a form of escape for her; it gives her time alone and enables her to reflect. She plans to continue running marathons despite completing a marathon in every state.
