Nicola Minetti, Silvio Berlusconi’s latest political recruit, has hit back at criticism suggesting that she is unsuitable for her new political role.
The young beauty, who first met the Italian Prime Minister just two months ago when he had to have dental treatment following an attack in Lazio; she had only been practising as a dental hygienist for a couple of months at the time. Since then, Miss Minetti has joined Berlusconi’s People of Freedom party and will potentially stand as a candidate in the upcoming European elections. The dental hygienist is just one of a string of attractive young women that make up Berlusconi’s political team.
The Italian Prime Minister has received criticism in the past for similar appointments but he had vowed that he would select the best political candidates for this next election; consequently, the opposition have expressed extreme concern at the announcement of his latest candidate, a newly qualified dental hygienist, who appears to have no political experience.
Miss Minetti, who has had a career as a showgirl in the past and has appeared on numerous television shows wearing minimal amounts of clothing, has given several interviews since her appointment. Although she admits she was expecting a degree of criticism, the furore that has surrounded the news of her candidature has surprised her. She is, however, taking it on the chin and insists she is up to the task even though she has stated that she has a lot to learn about the world of politics.
Miss Minetti is set to represent the party in the Lombardy region of Italy; she will join a host of other attractive young women on the ballot sheets. It remains to be seen whether the Italian people will welcome the injection of youth and beauty into their political system or they will side with the conventional politicians selected by opposition parties.
