Would having irritable wisdom tooth removed have any effect on my jaw?

Q.

Hello doctor, I have a question regarding my wisdom tooth. The gum sticks out over it a bit and every now and then it is causing me trouble. After discussing this with my dentist he has recommended I have it removed but I am a bit concerned. I have heard this can have an effect on the look of your jaw. Can you tell me if this is the case? Wioll it affect my face? What about the look of my teeth in general alignment. Thanks please

A.

It is normal to be concerned when having a wisdom tooth removed.  However, removal of a wisdom tooth will not have an effect on the appearance of your jaw or the alignment of your teeth.  You may have some swelling after the procedure but that will go away and you will look exactly the same as you do now.  Dr. Lemongello
