Gum disease is a treatable disease. It is caused by an accumulation of bacteria around the teeth and under the gums. The bacteria releases toxins that inflame the gums and causes the bone to disolve away. Treatment consists of physically removing the bacteria on a daily basis. There are toothpastes and mouthwashes that help as well as medication but excellent hygiene and frequent cleanings by your dentist are necessary. Dr. Lemongello
