What further problems can tooth decay cause?

Q.
I have noticed signs of tooth decay for quite some time now. I have tried to take care of my teeth to a good standard but the decay has developed as far as I can see. The reason I have let it go on is because I could not afford it, but now I think I will be able to do so. I would just like to know what other problems may have developed after leaving it so long to be treated?

Hi many thanks for your email, if your tooth has dental decay, the only other problems that can occur if left untreated, the decay could have spread into the nerve of the tooth so the tooth would then need root canal treatment before it is then restored with a filling or crown.

Also, if the decay is spread so the filling is large the tooth may be better being crowned as apposed to just filled. hope this information is helpful.
