Q. Hello, my teeth are okay but i want dental work done for cosmetic reasons. The thing is my font four teeth protrude more than the rest of my teeth so the rest sit back quite a bit so when I smile you see the first front teeth then a lot of gums, i hate it! Would I need an orthodontic procedure OR something like veneers? Thank you for taking the time out to read this.

A. It is possible through both means. The more immediate impact would be with veneers. Orthodontic treatiment would take longer. Cost would likely be greater with veneers.

Q. Hi I’ve heard that there are different types of dental veneers available, like da vinci veneers and lumineers etc which ones are the best? My teeth are quite chipped and the enamel on my teeth is very worn. What do you think would be best for me? My dentist is insisting that i pick but i don’t know. Thanks

A. The technique and type of material used for veneers is dependent on many factors. There is no one best material or one best technique for all situations. Your dentist should evaluate the situation and recommend what technique and material is best for you. I wouldn’t expect my patient to make that decision. Perhaps another dentist will help. Dr. Lemongello

Also, i’m looking into getting dental veneers once the gum disease has gone, would this be okay after having gum disease?

A. It takes a period 8-12 weeks for total healing of the gum tissue after treatment. It is important that you do what you are supposed to with your home care…if not the gingivitis will remain. Veneers are fine to have done as long as you continue your proper home care.

Q. for big gaps in teeth what treatment would you recommend. I am talking about things like veneer and lumineers or even invisalign or other braces treatment. Not all that sure about getting braces though as I would rather get the problem sorted sooner rather than later.

A. The most expeditious route to your problem would be with veneers. Braces can offer a nice solution to aligning the teeth and usually the course of treatment is 1-3 years depending upon the amount of tooth movement needed. However, it will not address the improvement of color and shape of your teeth which often is the most important appearance consideration. All of this can be accomplished with properly designed veneers by a qualified cosmetic dentist.

A.

It is difficult to determine without seeing your teeth. In general, I would recommend traditional orthodontic treatment first. Once your teeth are straight and in a good position if you are still not happy with the appearance then have veneers placed to improve them. Dr. Lemongello

Q. Hi my teeth are badly stained from drinking mass amounts of coffee and smoking too. They’re a yellow colour and do not look very pleasant i was just wondering if professional teeth whitening would get rid of the stains? are there different types of whitening systems? which one do you think would be best for me? my teeth are very badly stained compared to just general wear and tear of teeth. Thanks for your time and any advice would be great.

A. Whitening works well on teeth that have been stained by smoking and coffee drinking. It would be the most conservative approach to correction of this problem.

A. Anytime you receive dental treatment you may have some transient sensitivity. This is normal and you may be experiencing this now. Most likely after a few weeks this will subside. During this time focus on the improvement in your smile and don’t forget the reason you had veneers placed. Dr. Lemongello

A. Yes, lumineers are a brand. There are many different brands but all are basically the same. They are all thin shells of ceramic which are custom designed to the specifications set forth by the dentist. Fees will vary depending upon the expertise of the dentist, but usually a range of $900-$2500.

A. Veneers are thin shells of procelain that are customed designed to your smile needs. It is important to make sure that the dentist you entrust to this procedure is very well qualified. The best way to determine this is to evalute the web site of that individual and to inquire throught the American Academy of Cosemetic Dentistry or the BRitish Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
