Do you know of a cure for dry mouth and burning tongue?

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

Q. HI – Do you know if there is such a thing as a REAL CURE for dry mouth, burning tongue and roof of mouth? I tested negative for Sjogren’s, Diabetes, yeast infection, thrush, you name it. My GP says it is NOT from my meds, (I don’t believe them) sent me to ear/nose/throat doctor. After test results, he gave up, said he didn’t know what was wrong with my mouth, and that there was no need to return to him. Told me to go look up burning tongue on internet and see what others did for it. I tried Burnical herbal supposed CURE from Finland for 45 days, saw just a little difference. I find little very relief from Biotene mouthwash, use it all day long. Also chew lots of gum, constantly drink water. Never had chemo or radiation. I take BP meds, 1 diuretic for BP, & celebrex. There is another herbal from Australia for burning mouth I was thinking of trying (90 days). My dentist was no help. I want it to go away permanently. My mouth is not dry ALL the time, but sometimes my tongue sticks to roof of mouth, drives me crazy. Tip of tongue burns most of time. Any suggestions? Know anything about this ailment? If you can’t help, know anyone who might? Thanks a bunch.

A. I am sorry to hear about your unfortunate situation.  I know that burning tongue and dry mouth syndrome are real problems. These are complex issues with multiple unknown etiologies that are still not understood.  I do not know enough about these issues to offer any specific advice.  I would recommend you continue your search but cannot offer much help.  Dr. Lemongello

I have extremely sensitive teeth, what can I do to ease the pain?

Monday, June 28th, 2010

Q. I have very sensitive teeth and have tried everything to get rid of it. I’ve tried toothpaste and dental treatments and nothing seems to be working, my dentist has appeared to have run out of ideas. What can I use? Can you please help me because my teeth are constantly in pain, thank you.

A. There is currently a product called “D/Sense 2″ which has been very effective in diminishing tooth sensitivity when it is related to gumline recession.  If  the sensitivity is due to other reasons such as decay or deep restortations or fillings then it is possible that root canal treatment may be necessary.

Do you have any idea why my teeth are decaying?

Monday, June 21st, 2010

Q. Hello, i have had a white coloured substance on my tongue now for some time, it doesn’t bother me but since having it i’ve had really bad breath and my back teeth are decaying. I’m due to see my dentist but do you have any idea what this could be and why it’s happening?? thank you

A.

It could be something as simple as trauma caused from rubbing against the decayed teeth.  Decayed teeth can be a source of bad breath.  Have your dentist examine this.  See your dentist as soon as possible.  Dr. Lemongello

I have a bad ulcer on my tongue, is this a dental matter?

Friday, June 18th, 2010

Q. Hi, i have a large ulcer on my tongue, i think it’s an ulcer anyway. It’s seeping pus and i’m a bit concerned but is this a dental matter? Or is it a medical one? My gums are bleeding pretty bad also, i have no idea why! any help would be great!

A. This would be something you would want to have looked at right away.  Ulcerations can be treated.  However, you want to make sure it is something that is not more serious.

Root canal is still bothering me. Should I go with dentist’s advice?

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Q. I have had a root canal on tooth number 3 in which it is still bothering me. My endodontist has suggested an Apicectomy. I read an article where this could be up to 80% unsuccessful. Is this true? Would you suggest I go ahead with it or just get it pulled?

A. I would recommend you do whatever is necessary in an attempt to save your tooth.  It is worth undergoing this procedure to save the tooth as long as you realize the tooth may still be lost in the future.  Dr. Lemongello

Should I go and see my dentist about the tooth I think is infected?

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

Q. Hello, I had a tooth extracted a few week ago and I have noticed that it may be infected. The gums are very swollen around the tooth and it’s still bleeding (the socket) is this normal after a tooth extraction? (it was my bottom wisdom tooth) or should I go and see my dentist? I don’t want to make a fuss out of nothing. Thank you

A. Always opt to see your dentist….this could be an infection.

Do you have any idea why my gums have receded so badly?

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Q. Hello, my gums have badly receded and it’s causing me a lot of trouble because now my front two teeth are very sensitive and they feel loose. What can i do to help this? and do you have any idea why my gums have receded to this extent? I’ve always taken good care of my teeth and attend dental check-ups regularly. thank you for your time.

A. Recession of gum tissue is a clear sign of something wrong.  This can be attributal to a number of things…..Decay, overzealous brushing, a traumatic bite pattern or periodontal disease.  The proper diagnosis is very important because it would be treated differently for each one.  Make sure your dentist is aware of your concerns and have him refer you to a speacialist if he is not clear as to why this is happening.

Can I do anything to stop my jaw moving when I sleep?

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

Q. Hello. When i sleep at night on my left hand side i can feel my jaw move out of place slightly to the right and when i sleep in the right hand side my jaw sits just fine. But i have noticed now that my jaw does slant a little to the left.. why is this? can i do anything to stop it shifting further? I don’t want to undergo any surgery as it’s not that serious. Thank you.

A. I would not be too concerned at this point but you can have this condition evaluated by your dentist. Like all other joints in your body there cartilage between the bones.  The jaw joint is no different.  In this case the cartilage may be displaced some causing this effect.  If your jaw starts popping or clicking see your dentist.  Dr. Lemongello
