What is the difference between veneers and lumineers?

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011
Q.
Would you be able to tell me what the difference is between veners and lumineers. My dentists has recommended them both to me as I dont want braces but am not sure what the difference is?
A.

There is little difference in that veneers and Lumineers are both made of porcelain and share the technique of being minimally invasive. Porcelain veneers come in different qualities.  Lumineers are a proprietary form of porcelain veneers marketed by the company. However, traditional porcelain veneers fabricated by a skilled technician are much more artistically crafted in regards to beauty and natural appearance. Traditional veneers also have a better fit on the tooth and can be made of better materials than Lumineers. Dr. Lemongello

Are veneers used to improve the colour of teeth?

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011
Q.
Is veneers only for teeth that are discoloured or can it help with teeth that are crooked. It is mainly my front teeth but I dnot want to go with braces especially metal braces. Braces are quite expensie and I don’t want the effot of having to wear them for months and months,
A.
Veneers are ultra thin porcelain coverings for your teeth that can be used to change the shape and position of your teeth to correct them if they are crooked. Veneers can be as expensive as braces so if you are happy with the color and shape of your teeth you can straighten them.  Also, you don’t necessarily have to have conventional braces.  Perhaps Invisalign is an option.  Consult with your dentist.  Dr. Lemongello

What treatment can I get for front tooth gap?

Friday, February 25th, 2011
Q.
there is a very slight gap between my front teeth. My other teeth are okay so I do not want to get braces. What other treatment could I have to solve this indiscretion?
A.
The two options are: Cosmetic Bonding. This is the placement of a plastic tooth colored material in between the teeth to close the gap.  This procedure is dependent on how large the gap is and whether it will alter the length and width proportions of the tooth.  The other is placement of porcelain veneers on both teeth.  There are advantages and disadvantages to both procedures.  Consult with your dentist on what is best for you.  Dr. Lemongello

Are lumineers a brand of veneers?

Friday, February 25th, 2011
Q.
Hi, are lumineers a brand of veneers? if so are they the best kind? my friend just had lumineers and her teeth look fantastic! How much would they cost for a whole mouth set on average? thank you for your time.
A.
Yes, lumineers are a brand.  There are many different brands but all are basically the same.  They are all thin shells of ceramic which are custom designed to the specifications set forth by the dentist.  Fees will vary depending upon the expertise of the dentist, but usually a range of $900-$2500.

Are there different variations of dental veneers?

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011
Q.
Hi i’m looking into getting veneers. My teeth are in good physical condition but they’re very stained and various teeth whitening systems have previously failed. I was wondering about the variations of veneers, I’ve heard that teeth have to be shaved and filed down? In your opinion which is the best type of veneer?
A.
The best veneer is one that is placed using the most conservative approach possible utilizing the best material for the situation.  There is no one best veneer. Instead you should choose a dentist who understands the different materials and techniques available and discuss what is the best option for you. The teeth are not shaved down.  Most porcelain veneers requires minimal tooth reshaping for the veneer to fit properly. I would invite you to visit our website at www.lernerlemongello.com. Let us know if we can help. Dr. Lemongello

Can you tell me what is the fastest and simplest method to close tooth gaps?

Friday, February 18th, 2011
Q.
Can you tell me what the fastest and simplest way it is to close tooth gaps. I have them in abundance and now at 18 I know I should have got this fixed a lot sooner. I want a nice smile as soon as possible, but can you advise how I can achieve this?
A.
The fastest way is some form placing tooth colored material to close the space.  The two choices are: Composite bonding or porcelain veneers.  Both have their advantages and disadvantages in longevity, predicatbility and outcome. Visit our website at www.lernerlemongello.com for examples.  Dr. Lemongello

Are Lumineers like Veneers in that they require tooth shaving/filing? What are my options?

Thursday, February 17th, 2011
Q.
Am I right by saying that lumineers require no preparation of the teeth? I want veneers but not the type that involves the teeth being filed/shaved, my teeth are in very good condition and I don’t want them to become sensitive. Would lumineers be a better option for me? BUT are they just as good as regular veneers?
A.
Lumineers are marketed as prepless veneers.  Unfortunately, in order to correctly fit the veneers some preparation of the tooth is usually required.  Performed correctly, traditional veneers or Lumineers will not result in sensitve teeth. There is no one best veneer for all situations.  In general traditional porcelain veneers are more esthetic and natural in their appearance than Lumineers.  Porcelain veneer procedures have become much more conservative.  I recomend you consult with a dentist who is experienced in all techniques decide what is best for you situation.  Dr. Lemongello

I have what I consider to be a severe gummy smile and am hoping you can recommend treatment?

Thursday, February 17th, 2011
Q.
Dr. I have what I would consider to be a severe gummy smile that is greatly affecting my self-confidence. I am hoping that you can inform me of what can be done about this and any costs. I have no concers with my teeth as it is just my gums. Can anything be done to help with my smile? Would this have any effect on my teeth?
A.
There are a variety of options depending on what needs to be accomplished to correct your gummy smile.  Cost will vary greatly as well depending on what treatment is needed.  I would recommend you consult with a cosmetic dentist for more information.  For an example of what can be accomplsihed visit our website and under “smile gallery” in the top row third from the left is a person who had a gummy smile corrected with gum recontouring and porcelain veneers. My teeth are crowded and my front teeth overlap. What are my options though I don’t really want braces?

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011
Q.
My teeth are crowded and my front teeth overlap. Can you tell me if this can be corrected. I have also been told I -have lower crowded teeth. I don’t want to have my teeth removed but I want to have a smile I am not embarrassed to show. But to be honest I don’t really want braces for endless months or years. Could you give me some details on the options available to me and the costs. Thanks.
A.
There are many options available.  Braces may be the most practical solution but depending on how severe the crowding is your smile may be improved with porcelain veneers or crowns. Visit our website for examples of what is possible at www.lernerlemongello.com.  Costs vary greatly depending on where you live and the expertise of the treating doctor.  I would consult with a dentist to review your options and discuss the cost.  Dr. Lemongello

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011
Q.
Hi Dr. Trust you are well. My question is related to teeth color. My teeth colour is not white, they are yellowish in co lour, I dont smoke, coffee, tea, still colour is not white as what people have.have been to dentist and he had applied cape on my tooth but still they are not that white, can you please tell me what treatment should I take, I heard that bleaching is temporary, can you please help me in some permanent solution to have shiny and white teeths. Thanks in advance.
A.
Whitening is unpredictable, its results vary greatly due to a lot of factors and is not permanent.  If you want whiter, shiny teeth you will need to consider an option such as porcelain veneers.
