What braces would you recommend to fix my son’’s crooked teeth?

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011
Q.
hello

i have a thirteetn year old boy with crooked teeth and was wondering about the best braces for him. I want to get him something discreet and i really like the idea of invisalign but i have also seen that there is an invisalign teen and was wondering what the difference is between these two models. would this be more suitable for my son? he has all of his adult teeth and doesn’t have any rotten teeth or nothing so would you think that would be the best treatment and how is it different from normal invisalign?

thank you for help doctor and warm regards

A.
Hello and regards for taking the time to ask your question. Invisalign and Invisalign teen are essentially the same if all the adult teeth are erupted. Consult with a dentist to advise you on what is the best orthodontic treatment for your son. I hope this is of assistance to you and your son. Dr. Lemongello

What treatment will dental insurance cover?

Tuesday, July 12th, 2011
Q.
Are you in the know on what kind of treatment dental insurance will cover? Do any of your patients use insurance to cover the price of their treatment? I am guessing it won’t cover cosmetic treatments such as invisalign.
A.

All insurance policies are different and what they will and won’t cover varies by what is stated in the contract. You would need to read your contract or speak to someone at the insurance company to find out what is covered. If your insurance policy covers orthodontic treatment some percentage or specific dollar amount of the cost of Invisalign would be covered. You would have to speak to your dentist or the insurance company to find out how much.

What happens once invisalign treatment is complete?

Monday, July 11th, 2011
Q.
Once treatment is complete for invisalign is that it, all finished? I understand there is the need to wear retainers, but I am concerned after reading that some dentists recommend you wear them ‘forever’. Is this true? Is the possibility of retention all that bad?
A.
After any type of orthodontic treatment life time retention is needed. If you dont wear the retainers at night the teeth will shift. Wearing retainers at night, especially the invisalign type is not that difficult. Dr. Lemongello

What is the difference between invisalign and lingual braces?

Monday, June 27th, 2011
Q.
What is the difference between invisalign and lingual braces? Are they not both supposed to be practically invisible when wearing them?
A.
hi many thanks for your email, invisalign is a removable clear brace which works by using many aligners to move the teeth, each aligner is designed to move the teeth slightly, each aligner is worn for two weeks and then replaced with the next aligner in the sequence. the aligners look like a see through gum shield so when wearing the aligner its practically invisible.

lingual braces is a fixed metal brace, but instead of it being fixed to the front of the teeth(traditional method) it is attached to the back of the teeth(lingual surface) so they are practically invisable unless you look careful at the back of the teeth.

hope this clears that up.

Is invisalign express the same price as normal invisalign?

Friday, June 24th, 2011
Q.
Is invisalign express the same price as the normal invisalign service at clinics?
A.
Invisalign express is slightly cheaper than invisalign at most clinics, it requires less aligners and treatments times are said to be smaller, but the type of cases it treats is much less.

hope this is helpful.

Which is best out of lingual and invisalign braces?

Friday, June 24th, 2011
Q.
Which are the more popular out of lingual and invisalign braces? Which would you say it the better choice for straightening crooked teeth? Which are more easily available at clinics?
A.
hi many thanks for your email, lingual braces are conventional braces but instead of being stuck on the fronts of the teeth they are stuck on the backs of your teeth. there are a very good way to striaghten crooked teeth.

Invisalign is a clear brace system which uses aligners. Aligners are thin clear plastic gum shields which are placed into the mouth over two weeks, the aligner moves the teeth to a certain position and then you remove that aligner and place the next aligner in the mouth. this happens until the teeth are striaght. it can take longer to correct crooked teeth with this type of treatment.

i would say invisalign is a very popular treatment as more general dentist can perform this type of treatment whereas lingual braces is more complexed to perform so less dentists are confident in doing this treatment.

Are fixed braces quicker than invisalign?

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011
Q.
I have been approved for invisalign but am also thinking about getting fixed braces, as I don’t care if people can see the braces. However, I was wondering if you could tell me which would be the quicker treatment?
A.
The speed of treatment is usually faster with fixed braces.  This is generally because there is not the compliance concern as there is with invisalign when the patient has to be depended upon to wear the appliances.

What alternatives are there to braces for straightening teeth?

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011
Q.
I have crooked teeth but have always been put off braces. To this day that has not changed and I still don’t want braces. However I really want to have nice looking teeth so what other treatment options are there for crooked teeth? I dont want to lose my current teeth though as they are in good condition except for their positioning.
A.
There are only two ways to straighten your teeth. The first and ideal way if you have healthy teeth is some form of Orthodontics. If you don’t want braces, than Invisalign may be an option. The other is with porcelain veneers. Consult with a dentist that provides Invisalign to see if you are a candidate for treatment.

What is the best brace system for gapped teeth?

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011
Q.
Hello,

I am a 37 year old woman and have recently come into some money and would like one of the invisible braces. My teeth are very gapped, which is their main problem and I have quite a ’spread out’ smile. What brace system would you recommend as being the most effective and the one where far fewer relapses are recorded? Money isn’t too much of a worry so I don’t mind be recommended the higher end of the price spectrum

thanks again for your time

A.
Hello, sorry to hear about your problem
All forms of orthodontic treatment are equally effective but depend on the complexity. If your teeth are very gapped and spread out, the invisable braces like Invisalign may not be the best option. All orthodontic treatments require life time retention once completed. None are less proan to relapse. Consult with your dentist what is the best option for your situation. Dr. Lemongello
