Does listerine mouthwash cause tooth sensitivity?

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011
Q.
Just under two weeks ago I started using listerine mouthwash to help keep my teeth and gum clean. Seemed fine at first but I have now developed annoying and painful tooth sensivity, which i have not had a problem with before using listerine. Could they be related. Do you know of any patients that have had experience with this?
A.
I have never heard of Listerine creating tooth sensitivity.  It is an alcohol based mouthrinse and can as a result of this cause the mouth to become more dry.  I recommend non-alcohol based mouthrinses in my practice.

What treatment is performed through laser dentistry?

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011
Q.
What kind iof treatment is possible through the use of lasers, seen as it is still relatively new in dentistry? Is it completely safe?
A.
There are different types of lasers used in dentistry.  Some are for soft tissue (gum tissue) others are for hard tissure (teeth).  The hard tissue lasers are limited in there capability and research is still ongoing for the next level in this area.  Soft tissue lasers are well documented in their use and are a significant part of my practice.  Use of these lasers is very safe.

Is smoking the cause of bleeding gums noticed at the dentist?

Monday, June 20th, 2011
Q.
I went for a routine check up yesterday, cleaning and what not, and my dentist asked if i had been doing anything different when cleaning my teeth. I said no, but she told me that there was slight irritation from the cleaning with my lower gums and a bit of blood and that this does not normally happen with me. I did lie a bit though as there has been occasion when I have not cleaned my teeth after eating garbage before going to bed. I would say once every two weeks, and also smoking maybe once four times every two weeks. Could this be the cause? I am going to make sure I don’t leav it at night anyhow but would appreciate your answer.
A.
It is important to maintain your hygiene. It is not a good idea to each junk food and go to bed without brushing. Smoking is also not good for gum health so between these two it may be the cause of the changes seen by your dentist. Get back to a healthy routine and you should be fine.

A.

Often these will tighten up. However, it would be important to have it looked at to make sure you do not have a fracture. This would create alot of problems.

Monday, March 14th, 2011
Q.
How often is it necessary to visit the dentist? I go every six months but then there seems to be the need for some workj to do. Would going maybe every three months help to improve the state of my teeth?
A.
This may be a good idea. I would talk to your dentist about your concern and see what they recommend.

Which dentist’s opinion should I go with?

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011
Q.
Dear Dr. Lerner, I recently relocated to PBG. The local dentist I saw said I have a surface cavity on #2, surface cracked filling on #18, and need a porcelin/ceramic onlay on #31. I received a second opinion from another local dentist who said I have no cavities, no cracked filling, and should not have an onlay. I dont want unnecessary drilling and I dont want to let a cavity foster. How can I determine which opinion to follow?
A.
Thank you for your inquiry.  Unfortunately, since you have two conflicting opinions there is no way to determine which to follow.  If you would like, contact our office and speak with Robin to schedule an appointment for an examination. Thank you, Dr. Lemongello

I’m in dire need for a smile makeover, what do you suggest?

Friday, February 25th, 2011
Q.
I hate my smile. my teeth are all rotten because of various trauma and issues and i have bad dental phobia. some teeth are remaining and the half decent ones are chipped, i’m in dire need for a smile makeover, what do you suggest? i know you can’t give me much info until a consultation etc but i need a general idea of what treatments are available for nervous patients
A.
In todays modern dental offices there are many ways comfort can be achieved.  Medication can be used to reduce your anxiety or if necessary you can be sedated achieving more of a dream state that will allow you to be treated comfortable.  You might also be surprised at how easy a smile makeover can be with a highly skilled dentist.  Start by aking your friends, family and co-workers about their dentists. Check out their websites and then find a few dentists in your area and schedule a consult with each one until you find someone you like and are comfortable with.  Dr. Lemongello
