Can’t afford implant but does crown require special cleaning?

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011
Q.
I am goind to be getting a dental crown. I could get a dental implant but I don’t have enough money to spare for that at the moment. All I would like to know is if normal floss is sufficient to clean around the dental crown when I get it and whether just normal teeth cleaning will do? Not special care required is there, just the normal routine?
A.
There is no special care required.  Treat it like a natural tooth with brushing, flossing and regular dental visits.  Dr. Lemongello

How long before crown can be attached to implant?

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011
Q.
How long is it before the dental crown can be attached to the implant. I have heard it is three months but this seems quite long. Thank you for taking the time doctors
A.
In most cases the crown can be placed in about 3 months after the implant is placed. You have to wait for the bone to heal. If you broke your arm you would be in a cast 2 months waiting for the bone to heal. The jaw is no different. There are situations where this may take longer depending on the quality and quantity of bone. Dr. Lemongello

Can implants be used to support dentures?

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011
Q.
Hello Drs, can you tell me if dental implants can help to support dentures. I have heard that they can but I am not clued up on this sort of thing. I have had a denture for a year now but it doesn’t fell secure. I was hoping implants would be able to assist with this problem.
A.

Yes, implants can be used to help support and provide security of a denture. An implant supported denture is relatively simple and may be one of the most satisfying procedures for denture wearers we can provide.

Would implants help to firm up dentures?

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011
Q.
I have had my denture for nearly a year now. From the off my dentist mentioned implants and I said I may do so down the line but can not afford it at that present time. Well, now I can afford it and feel that it would relaly help with my dentures which can be loose on occasion. How many implants would be needed to hold a complete upper denture in place. How much? The denture would not need any adjusments would it?
A.
Implant born dentures are the best!!  You most likly will need a minimum of 4 fro it to be predicatably solid.  Adjustments are minimal.

What is the most suitable treatment for missing teeth?

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011
Q.
I am going to get four teeth removed because of gum disease and will be getting a partial denture soon after when the gums are sorted. He then said that some time after that I can get dental implants to cplete the job. I am unsure about implants and was wondering if a bridge may be a suitable alternative to the implants? Which would you say is the bestter option for me seen as I have had gum disease, well still have it.
A.

It is difficult to assess your situation. Usually if you are a candidate for implants they are planned initially. Implants are your best option but depending on what teeth remain and the condition of those teeth bridges may be considered. Speak to your dentist about the expected treatment.

What is this so called new all in 4 implant system?

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011
Q.
i have just read something about all in 4 i think it was called to do with a new kind of implant sysatem for attaching dentures. do you know anything about this and how good it is? supposedly it requires fewer implants which is onyl good in my opinion as it is cheaper but can you say anything more about it?
A.
I am not familiar with this system but the benefits of using traditional implants to secure dentures are proven.  If 4 implants are beyond your budget than use 2 now.  You can always add more later to gain better denture security in the future.  Make sure you only use traditional implants.  The mini implants do not have the same benefits.  Dr. Lemongello

What treatment can I get for tooth that is loose and discoloured?

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011
Q.
Can you please tell me what treatment there is for a tooth that feels loose and is discoloured? Price ranges wqould also be welcomed.
A.
The treatment and cost will be dictated by determining why the tooth is loose.  If there is bone loss around it, it may need to be extracted.  This would require a bridge or an implant to replace it.

Is it possible to have a full set of dental implants?

Friday, February 25th, 2011
Q.
I’m considering dental implants to replace my annoying dentures, can you get a full mouth set of implants? If so how much would they be? Also, would you advise doing this?
A.
With todays implant technology it is possible to replace all your teeth with implants.  There are many other implant combination and restorative possibilities available as well depending on your financial situation.  The cost can vary greatly based on your location and the expertise of the dentist.  I would recommend you seek a consultation with a qualified implant specialist.
