Cost of sinus lift, bone grafting and two dental implants?

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011
Q.
Could you give me an estimate cost for a sinus lift (not exactly sure what this is), bone grafting and two dental implants? I guess there will be a time of recovery between each stage of this treatment for the gums to heal or something along those lines? Your rough guess at the price would be appreciated.
A.
This is a question that is outside the scope of my expertise.  This should be addressed with an implantologist/oral surgeon.  They can be very specific about this.  A rough estimate would be 5-7 thousand dollars in the US.

What is bone grafting?

Monday, June 20th, 2011
Q.
I am going to be getting three dental implants but have been told by my dentist that I am going to need bone grafting. What exactly is this procedure?
A.
hi many thanks for your enquiry, a bone graft is taking bone from one part of your body and placing it into another area which requires the bone, generally for dental implant work the bone is harvested from somewhere else in the mouth or if a large amount is needed the hip.

there are many dentists which now use artificial bone as a substitute and mix this with the harvested bone to bulk the area out.

hope this is helpful.

What is different between implant and mini implants?

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011
Q.
I am looking into get dental implants but have come across what is called mini implants. Would you be able to tell me in simple terms what the difference is and which one would be best for me having only one tooth missing?
A.
Mini implant are thin/narrow implants that are placed right through the gum tissue and are considered a less permanent method than true cyolinder implants.    My suggestion is always to opt for what is more permanent.

What is the difference between normal dental implants

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011
Q.
What is the difference between normal dental implants and the mini dental implants I have just come across? Do they both do basically the same job?
A.
mini implants are very thin implants that are generally placed through the gum tissue.   A “normal” dental implant is an implant where the bone is prepared and the implant is place into the prepared site and the gum tissue then closed over top of it.

What is the maryland bridge?

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011
Q.
Someone mentioned to me the maryland bridge or something along those lines as an alternative to implants? I don’t really know what this is, if you could give me some info?
A.
A Maryland bridge is a bridge that is bonded to the adjacent teeth instead of reducing the adjacent teeth. Think of a tooth with wings on each side. These wings are bonded to the adjacent teeth. The advantage is that it is minimally invasive to the adjacent teeth. The disadvantages are that they are not as predictable long term and should only be used to replace a missing front tooth. Also, depending on the skill of the dentist and the materials used the esthetic outcome may be compromised.

What criteria is there to be suitable for dental implants?

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011
Q.
I want to get a dental implant and am all set for a consultation but could you please tell me what criteria will decide if I am suitable for it?
A.
Dental implants depend on appropriate bone as a foundation. There are very few situations where a dental implant is not indicated. Consult with the dentist performing the surgery.
