What will happen when crown is at the end of it’s life span?

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011
Q.
I have been told that my crown will not last more than about five more years. This causes several images of what will happen to go through my mind. What will actually happen? Will it just fall out?
A.

Allow your dentist to monitor the situation. Be proactive. When your dentist tells you it is time to treat it, even if it is a little before its time, do it then, before it becomes a bigger problem. You wouldn’t wait until your tire blew out before you changed it, don’t wait for your tooth to break either.

My dental crown fell out – what should I do?

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011
Q.
Three days ago I got a dental crown, but, for some unexplained reason, the crown has fallen out. The earliest appointment I could get at the dentist is early monday, but what can I do in the mean time to make sure my remaining tooth is not getting damaged? Should I be more careful when brushing my teeth?
A.
Hi, many thanks for your email. It is unusual for a crown to fall out so early after it has been fitted. If the crown can go directly back onto the tooth, you can purchase some temporary cement from an pharmacy and tempoariily recement it. Alternatively, my advice would be to brush it softly and stick to a soft diet till monday.

Should I opt for other treatment as crown keeps falling out?

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011
Q.
I have a dental crown that keeps falling out and to no error of my own as far as I am concerned. I have already paid once to get it put back in but is it worth doing so again. Should I get some other treatment or is this even doewn to some fault with the dentist that the crown she put in keeps falling out? Thanks.
A.
I would consider a second opinion from another dentist.  You may want to get an opinion before it falls off again but once off a new doctor may be able to give you a better idea why it won’t stay on.  Dr. Lemongello

The crown on top of the root canaled tooth keeps falling out, why is this happening?

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011
Q.
I had root canal surgery a few months ago and a gold crown was placed on top of it. The crown keeps falling out and the tooth is extremely painful. Does this mean where I had the root canal treatment is infected? or is it something to do with my crown? My dentist said everything looks fine in the X-ray!
A.
If it is falling out all the time it is possible that the preparation may have to be changed and a new crown made.  It is also possible that there is a problem with your bite..This should be checked.
