What is the best treatment to fill in a craze line running down my front tooth?

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012
Q.
Hello Dr.

I have a craze line/crack running down my front tooth and I really dont like the look of it. I understand that it is only minor and not structurally weak; however it just upsets me when I see it. I have beautiful teeth and have never had any problems, so I was looking for the lease invasive fix possible (micro abrasion/light sanding and polishing etc.)

I also have white spots on my teeth from my braces and have just finished KOR bleaching which didnt help

What would you recommend to fix the problem with out putting vaneers over my teeth?

Thank you for your help dr Lemongello

A.
Unfortunately, there is no simple predictable way to remove the crack line with just polishing. Micro abrasion may work to improve the white spots from braces. If you completed KOR whitening consult with your dentist about what may be your best option. Dr. Lemongello

What treatment is available for a broken tooth?

Friday, June 24th, 2011
Q.
My three year old son has broken his tooth while playing on the swings at the ark. The tooth is chipped, but is not causing him any pain. What would advise me to do? Could this have any effect on his later adult teeth?
A.
If there is no pain or no involvement in the nerve of the tooth then I would choose to let it be.  He will loose this tooth naturally when he is about 7.  An x-ray  and exam would be indicated just to be sure that there is no underlying damage to the developing permanent tooth.

There are many different treatments depending on the extent of the damage. I am sure no matter what your needs are there is a good solution. You will have to consult with a dentist to find out exactly what is needed in your case.

Is cracked tooth infected?

Monday, June 20th, 2011
Q.
I cracked my tooth when I fell on a night out. It did not hurt all that much at the time time but now the tooth feels quite sensitive to cold water and even hot drinks. Is it possible that the nerve has been damaged? If I go to te dentist what can I expect?
A.
Definitely go to the dentist.  A cracked tooth can become infected.  Sometimes the response to heat or cold after trauma is normal.  It should be evaluated nonetheless.

Should I be concerned that my babies tooth fell out?

Monday, March 14th, 2011
Q.
My 14 months old baby/child managed to fall flat on her face and not crack but lose completely one of her front teeth. I am concerned that she will now not have any tooth there until her permanent teeth come through, which is years and years away. Should I go to the dentist to have her checked over or is she too young for this?
A.
This should not be a problem. Sometimes the eruption sequence of the permanent teeth may be affected. You may want to consult a Pediatric dentist just to make sure there are no problems. Most likely, she will be without a front tooth until the permanent tooth comes in.

What options are there to fix a cracked tooth?

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011
Q.
One of my teeth has been cracked and the dentist has said I can have bonding to mend it up but I am unsure whether this will look all that good. Are there any other options for a crack tooth?
A.
There are many options for a cracked tooth depending on the severity of the crack. Bonding, if done with skill, is a very good option and is a simple, inexpensive repair. Other options are a porcelain veneer or crown. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.  Discuss this with your dentist.  Dr. Lemongello

How can dentist tell if tooth is cracked?

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011
Q.
How is the dentist able to tell if a tooth has been cracked. I fell flat on my face (ouch) and my front tooth is in quite a bit of pain but looks okay. I fear it may be cracked. I think I may go see the dentist but can you please answer me first?
A.
A cracked tooth will generally respond by sensitivity to pressure or temperature.  Your dentist can run tests to determine this along with taking an x-ray.

Can I have my teeth whitened if I have a cracked tooth?

Thursday, February 24th, 2011
Q.
One of my two big front teeth is cracked due to an accident around a year ago .There was no pain so I have not had it treated but I have noticed that my teeth have been getting discolored over time. What I want to know is whether it would be opkay to get teeth whitening even though one of my teeth is cracked? Would this have any negative effect on it?
A.
If your teeth are darkening since your accident it is possible that the nerve of the teeth is dying….this often causes a discolorizatiation.  It would be important for this to be evaluated by your dentist before you decide to whiten your teeth.
