What is the cost of full mouth reconstruction?

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011
Q.
Could you please tell me some of the advantages and disadvantages of the full mouth reconstruction procedure? I need it done because of a bad case of gum disease, but my teeth were not the best anyway. Could you also give me an estimate of what this may cost, and what it actually involves?
A.
hi many thanks for your email, a full mouth reconstruction is used when the existing teeth are broken down, worn  or missing so that the occlusion(bite) is not ideal and the function of the mouth is not satisfactory.

Full mouth reconstructions can vary from £10,000 to £50,000 dependant on the time needed and how much work is necessary and if dental implant work is also needed. hope this is helpful.

What procedure is best for widening a narrow arch?

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011
Q.
Hello Doctor,

i have very crowded teeth on my top jaw and my dentist tells me a very narrow arch. I feel that orthodontics are my best option but was wondering which would be the best system for my current condition. I have looked at invisalign, damon braces and lingual and am a little stuck for which to choose. Which would you think is the most effective in concerns to my case and how would it work? Also, i know generally you would have to see me to know this, but what is a general time span for the most effective brace?

thank you very much for your time.

A.
Certainly orthodontics are an option and any of these treatment modalities will work. If you are looking to change the shape of your teeth or the color, orthodontics will not address these issues, it will only give you straighter teeth. Cosmetic dentistry is another option which would allow you to do all the above in as little as 3 weeks!

Where can I go for a top drawer new smile?

Thursday, March 24th, 2011
Q.
Hello Doctor

I want a brand spanking new smile and money is no object.

I always hated my teeth and have recently come into a significant amount of money. I don’t want to buy a frerrari, I’d rather fix my teeth.

How much am I looking at for a proper, top drawer new smile and how long would the process take?

A.
First, align yourself with an excellent Cosmetic Dentist. If you are in the UK, you want to see a Dr. Komal Suri in Wendover. You can google her and tell her Dr. Kirtley referred you. If in the US, refer to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry web site for referral to someone in your area.

my bottom teeth are overcrowded one in particular jutts back from the rest, but its getting worse and they are all getting wonky the ones next to it and so forth, what kind of treatment do I need to fix this is orthodontic treatment or cosmetic dentistry, and how much roughly will I need to spend to correct this?
A.
It can be either orthodontics or cosmetic dentistry or even a combination of the two. Orthodontics will always require more time. Cost is variable, but usually cosmetic dentistry is more costly.

What treatment is available for gummy smile?

Monday, March 14th, 2011
Q.
Since I can remember my gums have always covered the front of my teeth a little too much, in my opinion. I hate the way it looks when I smile and I am always covering my face when I do so. This really affects my confidence and I find it difficult to stay in a relationship for long. Is there any kind of treatment that is not too much like major surgery which can fix this problem?
A.
Is there any kind of treatment that is not too much like major surgery which can fix this problem? There is no reason for you to feel this way about your smile with so many options for treatment available. It sounds like you need a gum lift. There are different solutions for your problem that are not major surgery. Consult with a Cosmetic Periodontist to go over your options. There may be a simpler solution than you think.

What is the deal with free teeth whitening as part of other treatment?

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011
Q.
From looking about i have noticed that several dentist seem to offer teeth whitening treatment as part of other treatments. why is this? i thought teeth whitening was supposed to be a relatively expensive treatment so how are dentists able to offer it free with other treatments. also, i just want to get it done the one time and dont want follow ups or to have to do it at home so which one would you say on that basis is best for me please drs.
A.

All in office whitening systems are similar with similar results. Whitening however can be unpredictable. You can have your teeth whitened one time but that may not be enough to achieve the best result. Also, without follow up of some kind the whitening effect will diminish over time which is why we recommend follow up. The choice is up to you.

What treatment can I get for narrow teeth?

Friday, February 25th, 2011
Q.
I have narrow teeth Dr Kirtley and it makes only my front teeth able to be seen when I talk or smie. What can be done to help me in terms of dental treatment if you can give me some advice?
A.
This is a condition that is often seen.  In the hands of an excellent cosemtic dentist your smile can be re-designed to make it look proportional and harmonious with the rest of your teeth, smile and face!  You simply have to find someone who would be qualified.  Look at the AACD web site (American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry) or the BACD (British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry) if you live in the UK.  Also, ask if they use Envision A Smile cosmetic imaging software.  This is a way in which they can show you a computer simulation of what your smile could look like before you do it!  It is a wonderful way to see the possibilities.  If they do not have it, have them look at the web site, www.envisionasmile.com.  You can also do this.
