Can Valplast be used to replace gum line?

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Q. Ihave chronic receding gums but no tooth loss as yet. Can Valplast be used to replace the gumline?

A. No, that would not be an option in my proctice.  YOu must seek the reason as to why your gums are receding.  There is a reason and it can be treated.  The continuation of recession means you are also losing bone support.  Be proactive about this, you can keep yourself away from alot of problems.

What treatment can I get for front tooth gap?

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Q. there is a very slight gap between my front teeth. My other teeth are okay so I do not want to get braces. What other treatment could I have to solve this indiscretion?

A. The two options are: Cosmetic Bonding. This is the placement of a plastic tooth colored material in between the teeth to close the gap.  This procedure is dependent on how large the gap is and whether it will alter the length and width proportions of the tooth.  The other is placement of porcelain veneers on both teeth.  There are advantages and disadvantages to both procedures.  Consult with your dentist on what is best for you.  Dr. Lemongello

Gums have receded but what can be done?

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Q. My gums have been wearing down for some time now but I have been too scared to get them sorted which has only resorted in them getting worse and me not even wanting to go out a lot of the time. What has caused this to happen? I don’t smoke and have an all together healthy lifestyle in my opinion but this is ruining y confidence. What can be done if anything to help me please?

A. Mostly, the cause of this problem is lack of professional care and cleaning.  Also, there may be an issure with your bite.  You have to get care from a specialist which would be called a Periodontist.

Do veneers require any tooth removal?

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Q. Do veneers require the teeth that are in place to be removed or even shaved away first? I could possibly have veneers of invisalign but I do not want to lose any of my teeth if that is the case with veneers.

A. Invisalign will straighten your teeth.  If you are happy with the shape and color of your teeth than  this is a good choice.  In general veneers do require tooth removal about the thickness of a business card but allow improvement of the color, shape and position of your teeth.  Consult with your dentist on what choice is best for you.  Dr. Lemongello

Which dentist’s opinion should I go with?

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Q. Dear Dr. Lerner, I recently relocated to PBG. The local dentist I saw said I have a surface cavity on #2, surface cracked filling on #18, and need a porcelin/ceramic onlay on #31. I received a second opinion from another local dentist who said I have no cavities, no cracked filling, and should not have an onlay. I dont want unnecessary drilling and I dont want to let a cavity foster. How can I determine which opinion to follow?

A. Thank you for your inquiry.  Unfortunately, since you have two conflicting opinions there is no way to determine which to follow.  If you would like, contact our office and speak with Robin to schedule an appointment for an examination. Thank you, Dr. Lemongello

What is the difference between veneers and lumineers?

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Q. What is the difference between veneers and lumineers? Do they both basically do the same job or are they different?

A. Lumineers is nothing but a brand name for a veneer.  How they are applied to the teeth can be slightly different.  Lumineers are marketed as a “no preparation” technique.  This is often misinformation.  It is a rare occasion that a tooth can be veneered or lumineered without some sort of preparation

Does teeth whitening at the dentist cause sensitivity?

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Q. When I do my at home teeth whitening I experience quite a bit of tooth sensitivity and duly can not keep the trays in my mouth for too long. It feels like I am not getting the most fomr the treatment because of it. Can you tell me if the whitening treatments offered at the dentists are any easier on the teeth as I do want to keep my teeth at a good colour?

A. Sensitivity is common when using whitening materials.  Generally take home whitening products cause less sensitivity than the in office products used by the dentist.  I would recommend using the whitening products for no more than 10 minutes a day.  This should be sufficient to whiten your teeth and may help keep the sensitivity down.  Your dentist may also be able to give you some fluoride to add to your tray to help with sensitivity.  Dr. Lemongello

Should I go for Veneers of Lumineers?

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Q. I dont want braces and therefore want veneers or possibly lumineers. but to decide can you tell me in what cases either treatment are suitable for. veneers seems to be the main one from what i gather but what would you say?

A. Treatment to straighten teeth can be with veneers or with orthodontics.  Orthodontics will give you straighter teeth but will not impact the color or the form or the proportions of your teeth.  Veneers can attain all of the above.  Make sure you go to someone qualified to undertake this sort of treatment.

What treatment can I get for tooth that is loose and discoloured?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Q. Can you please tell me what treatment there is for a tooth that feels loose and is discoloured? Price ranges wqould also be welcomed.

A. The treatment and cost will be dictated by determining why the tooth is loose.  If there is bone loss around it, it may need to be extracted.  This would require a bridge or an implant to replace it.
