What options are available when a veneer is chipped?

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011
Q.
My veneer has chipped and looks quite horrible. I have had for quite some time now, but it only started to feel vulnerable after treatment I had on a tooth next to it last month. Is my only choice to just get another veneer put in?
A.
Hi, many thanks for your email, if your veneer has chipped then the best treatment option would be to have the veneer replaced. i hope this is helpful.

Could chipped teeth be linked to serious medical condition?

Friday, March 4th, 2011
Q.

of late several of my teeth have chipped. i maintain good oral health and i am worried this may be linked to some serious medical condition. would you know what the problem is or something that can fix this problem?

A.

Chipping is usually a sign of wear due to grinding your teeth (Bruxism).  Everyone grinds their teeth while they sleep.  Some more than others.  I would recommend you have your bite (the way your teeth grind together) evaluated.  You may need a night guard which is a hard plasic device to help protect them from further chipping.  Dr. Lemongello

I’m considering dental veneers, any advice?

Friday, February 25th, 2011
Q.
Hi, i’m thinking about having dental veneers because my teeth are chipped and not a nice colour really, I want them to look more natural and nice again, are veneers the best way forward? Also, are there any major risks from veneers because i heard they have to file your tooth down, I don’t particularly want to lose any more tooth! Thank you for your help.
A.

How much tooth structure that is removed is dependent upon how staight and how discouloured your teeth are..  Veneers are a great consideration because they are thin and can naturally replicate teeth.

I’m in dire need for a smile makeover, what do you suggest?

Friday, February 25th, 2011
Q.
I hate my smile. my teeth are all rotten because of various trauma and issues and i have bad dental phobia. some teeth are remaining and the half decent ones are chipped, i’m in dire need for a smile makeover, what do you suggest? i know you can’t give me much info until a consultation etc but i need a general idea of what treatments are available for nervous patients
A.
In todays modern dental offices there are many ways comfort can be achieved.  Medication can be used to reduce your anxiety or if necessary you can be sedated achieving more of a dream state that will allow you to be treated comfortable.  You might also be surprised at how easy a smile makeover can be with a highly skilled dentist.  Start by aking your friends, family and co-workers about their dentists. Check out their websites and then find a few dentists in your area and schedule a consult with each one until you find someone you like and are comfortable with.  Dr. Lemongello

I chipped my teeth badly, what can I do about them?

Thursday, February 24th, 2011
Q.
I chipped 4 of my teeth in an accident quite badly and I really don’t want to have them extracted but they’re starting to look darker in colour and i’m worried, I’m waiting to see my dentist (next week) to see what options there are for me but what would you suggest for chipped teeth so I could but the ideas forward to him? Thank you for your time any advice would be great.
A.
The goal would be to save your teeth.  The color change may be due to a change in the health of the nerve which may require treatment. Your dentist will need to establish what options are needed to restore your teeth to health. I am confident you will find a solution.  Dr. Lemongello

I recently chipped my teeth and now they’re changing colour, what should I do?

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011
Q.
Hi there, i chipped my teeth recently (both of my front teeth) it was in a skateboarding accident anyway they look okay but they’re really painful at the moment and turning a funny color i have a bit of a fear of the dentist so what do you think i should do??
A.
See a dentist!!!!! you have likely traumatized them to the point that the nerve of the tooth has been affected.

What’s the difference in the types of dental veneers?

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011
Q.
Hi I’ve heard that there are different types of dental veneers available, like da vinci veneers and lumineers etc which ones are the best? My teeth are quite chipped and the enamel on my teeth is very worn. What do you think would be best for me? My dentist is insisting that i pick but i don’t know. Thanks
A.
The technique and type of material used for veneers is dependent on many factors.  There is no one best material or one best technique for all situations.  Your dentist should evaluate the situation and recommend what technique and material is best for you. I wouldn’t expect my patient to make that decision.  Perhaps another dentist will help.  Dr. Lemongello

What treatment should I expect to receive when some of my teeth are missing and the others are chipped?

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011
Q.
I have my two front teeth missing from a bad accident and the teeth surrounding (at the front, both bottom and top jaw) are badly chipped and one of them has turned almost black. I’m waiting to see my dentist again but I want to make sure he suggests the correct treatment for me because he always seems to get a lot of money out of me and hardly does any work. What can you suggest would fix my teeth that are in this state?
A.
Hard to tell but I can tell you that the costs for doing bridges or implants to correct the problem of missing teeth can be expensive.  But, very necessary if you want to be able to look good and eat properly.

I would like a full mouth reconstruction, what is the first step I have to take?

Monday, February 21st, 2011
Q.
Hi, I am in dire need of a full mouth reconstruction. Over the years, I’ll admit I haven’t looked at me teeth as good as I should have and the majority of fallen out, as a result of this my mouth now appears to be fallen to one side. My front teeth have decayed badly and my gums bleed a lot. I know I should get this looked at but I can’t afford dental care and I have a major phobia of the dentist. What do you recommend I do? Thank you Dr.
A.
Dentistry has changed in many positive ways.  You are going to have to contain your fear and seek the help of a dentist.  Many dentists are trained in conscious sedation to reduce your fear and anxiety. Unfortunately, extensive dental treatment can be costly.  Start by consulting with a qualified dentist who specializes in complex dentistry.  You can then discuss your options and cost of treatment. Financing may be necessary.  Dr. Lemongello

Are my chipped and apparently thinning teeth related to my bulimia?

Thursday, February 17th, 2011
Q.
recently a couple of my teeth have been chipped and when i look at my teeth in the mirror they appear to be in some ways thinning. I am concerned this may be connected to my bulimia. Is there any treatment that would help me?
A.
Bulimia is a serious medical condition and I encourage you to seek professional attention to help you manage and over come this disease.  Bulimia is life threatening. Stomach acid is very corrosive and over time will erode away your teeth until they become thin and almost see through.  The slow destruction of your teeth is directly related to your disease.  Once this occurs your teeth will require treatment to restore them to health but nothing will help if you continue to go untreated. Please get help as soon as possible.  Dr. Lemongello
