Is home teeth whitening better than the in-clinic teeth whitening option?

Q.
Is home teeth whitening or in clinic teeth whitening the better option. I have been told it is the home one as you are using the stuff more regularly rather than just getting an instantaneous result?
A.
Both are excellent.  The clinic whitening gives you immediate results.  However, if you have the clinic whitening done you should also have the “at home” kit so as to maintain the quality of your tooth whitening

Lingual braces didn’t work but can veneers help me?

Q.
Hello, i had the lingual brace treatment but it didn’t work on me, my teeth are still pretty wonky. Could veneers help the appearance of this? or would you recommend another brace treatment? Thanks for your time.
A.

It is difficult to determine without seeing your teeth.  In general, I would recommend traditional orthodontic treatment first.  Once your teeth are straight and in a good position if you are still not happy with the appearance then have veneers placed to improve them.  Dr. Lemongello

I may need a tooth extraction, are there any alternatives to this?

Q.
I chipped a front tooth in a accident a fortnight ago. I thought I may only needed it to be filled so i booked an appointment. Turns out i’ve damaged the nerve of that tooth! I might need a tooth extraction, are there any alternatives to this?? Thank you
A.
If it is not savable, then you will have to consider a bridge or implant to replace the missing tooth.

Will teeth whitening make my teeth look more transparent?

Q.
I am planning to do a home bleaching system form my dentist. The bottom of my from two teeth are slightly transparent (not noticeable unless you look close). I am wondering how much this will be accentuate the difference. Thanks
A.

Whitening the teeth will also allow more brightness to pass through the transparent edge.  You should not see a noticable change.  Dr. Lemongello

I’m experiencing tooth pain and I have no idea why, what could be causing this?

Q.
hello, i’m experiencing severe tooth pain in my lower jaw at the back of my mouth. I have no idea why this is happening, it looks like it’s in good condition and i’ve had no work on it! The gum is swollen around the sore tooth too, i’m really concerned, what could be causing this??
A.
This could be what is called a “pericoronal infection” .  It can be extrememly painful and should be addressed immediately.

Can I do anything to stop my jaw moving when I sleep?

Q.
Hello. When i sleep at night on my left hand side i can feel my jaw move out of place slightly to the right and when i sleep in the right hand side my jaw sits just fine. But i have noticed now that my jaw does slant a little to the left.. why is this? can i do anything to stop it shifting further? I don’t want to undergo any surgery as it’s not that serious. Thank you.
A.
I would not be too concerned at this point but you can have this condition evaluated by your dentist. Like all other joints in your body there cartilage between the bones.  The jaw joint is no different.  In this case the cartilage may be displaced some causing this effect.  If your jaw starts popping or clicking see your dentist.  Dr. Lemongello

What smile makeover treatment would you recommend for me?

Q.
Hello, i feel i need a smile makeover. My teeth are very crooked and decayed because of my phobia of the dentist. Not only that my smile seems very droopy and my lips are now sooo thin! What treatments can you recommend for my bad state? Money isn’t an option! Thank you
A.
Thank you for your question.  Perhaps the most dramatic thing that can be done to improve facial attractiveness is to enhance the worn smile.  This can easily be done through the advances in cosmetic dentistry.  Proper design of your smile can improve support of your lips.  This is always a dramatic effect when doing a smile makeover that many often fail to overlook.  Additionally, we can accentuate the effect by considering the administration of dermal fillers in the lips and around the mouth.  If I can be of assistance please view my website at www.smilesbygeorge.com .  You can notify me at 317-841-1111.  Thanks

What is causing my bad breath?

Q.
Only recently i’ve discovered that my breath smells bad and my mouth is constantly dry, i brush my teeth twice a day as advised to so i have no idea what’s causing this, what should i do? it’s causing a lot of social problems! thank you
A.
I would consult with a dentist and see if they can identify a cause.  Breath malodor can be caused by many different things, from diet ti medical conditions as well as gum disease and tooth decay. Your dry mouth isn’t helping.  There are products available specifically designed to treat breath malodor. Products like OxyFresh are very effective.  Dr. Lemongello

What treatment would you recommend for big tooth gaps?

Q.
for big gaps in teeth what treatment would you recommend. I am talking about things like veneer and lumineers or even invisalign or other braces treatment. Not all that sure about getting braces though as I would rather get the problem sorted sooner rather than later.
A.
The most expeditious route to your problem would be with veneers.  Braces can offer a nice solution to aligning the teeth and usually the course of treatment is 1-3 years depending upon the amount of tooth movement needed.  However, it will not address the improvement of color and shape of your teeth which often is the most important appearance consideration.  All of this can be accomplished with properly designed veneers by a qualified cosmetic dentist.

Q.
Hello, i’m really worried about the state of my teeth and because they’re in such a bad way my gums are starting to bleed, i have constant mouth ulcers and bits of my teeth are falling out. Trouble is i’m petrified of the dentist and can’t bring myself to go to get my teeth sorted, please help me i don’t know what to do.

I would recommend you seek out a dentist who is trained in Conscious Sedation and consult with them about your teeth.  Dentists and Dentistry has come a long way in regards to making people comfortable. Don’t wait any longer.  Dr. Lemongello
