Q.
Recently I have had tooth ache and this seems to have transferred into a slight jaw pain as well. I can’t help but think they are related and that there may be a problem. I have booked in a dentist appointment for next week. Have you any idea what it may be?
A.
hi many thanks for your email, if the tooth ache has radiated to the jaw, the first thing that springs to mind is that there may be a infection in a tooth. hope this is helpful.
Q.
Does a dental crown contain any metal elements that may prohibit me getting an MRI scan? I need to get the scan for a matter that is not related to dentistry in any way as it is my knee but could it still be problematic?
A.
Many dental restorations contain metal. Any metal elements in your mouth will not prohibit you from having an MRI. Dr. Lemongello
Q.
I am goind to be getting a dental crown. I could get a
dental implant but I don’t have enough money to spare for that at the moment. All I would like to know is if normal floss is sufficient to clean around the dental crown when I get it and whether just normal teeth cleaning will do? Not special care required is there, just the normal routine?
A.
There is no special care required. Treat it like a natural tooth with brushing, flossing and regular dental visits. Dr. Lemongello
Q.
I have my teeth. They are really wonky and look like piano keys when I smile. This has had a terrible effect on my self-confidence especially during my time at schoool. Is there any option other than braces to get this fixed? Could you help me please and thank you.
A.
Depending on your situation and desire for a new smile, there are options other than braces. One very predictable way to change the shape, color and position of your teeth to improve your smile is with porcelain veneers. Visit our website to view some of the possibilities! Dr. Lemongello
Q.
If getting dentures are moulds taken or something like that? How long will it take for me to get my denture – a complete upper denture that is?
A.
Ususally 3-5 appointements
Q.
How long is it before the dental crown can be attached to the implant. I have heard it is three months but this seems quite long. Thank you for taking the time doctors
A.
In most cases the crown can be placed in about 3 months after the implant is placed. You have to wait for the bone to heal. If you broke your arm you would be in a cast 2 months waiting for the bone to heal. The jaw is no different. There are situations where this may take longer depending on the quality and quantity of bone. Dr. Lemongello
Q.
My kid got dental sealant put on his teeth today. Now, he keeps saying that his teeth are sticking together a bit. Should I get in touch with the dentist, or is this normal straight after? The dentist did not mention this would happen.
A.
You might have this looked at. It may only need to be polished a bit more.
Q.
Hello Dr’s. just over three months ago I had two dental veneers applied for teeth that were crooked as I did not want braces. Now, I am getting a pain in my gum where the veneers are and do not know what to do. Can you please offer any advice?
A.
My advise is to contact the dentist who provided the treatment and let him evaluate the situation. Dr. Lemongello
Q.
Do you know if most water supplies contain flouride these days. I ask because I currently take supplements because I need to but I am worried that I amy be having too much if there is indded quite a quantity in the water supply?
A.
You can find out through your city health department. If you are taking fluoride supplements to counter the lack of fluoride in your water, then that is a good move. However, if you are getting it in you drinking water then you might stop the supplement.
Q.
All my teeth are going to be extracted in order to get a denture, but how long will it take to get the denture when moulds are taken? Will I just have to walk around with no teeth for this time or can I be offerred a short term replacement?
A.
I recommend you discuss with your dentist an immediate denture. Molds are taken and the denture is made before your teeth are extracted, this way you do not go without teeth. After healing takes place the immediate denture can be modified to fit better or a new denture can be made.
