A. hi many thanks for your email, the best advice would be to seek an orthodontist who  would be able to give you more advice on this.

Is six month smiles treatment time as the name states?

November 23rd, 2009

Q. Do 6 month smiles always stick to the time limit as the name says? Or does it sometimes go over the limit. I am in need of getting my teeth straightened before my wedding in 8 months so they seem like a great option for me.

A. Six Month Smiles is an aproximate time frame.  Many cases are completed in 6 months but some may take longer depending on the situation.  With 8 months available if you start now you could very well be finished in time for the wedding.

What does relining of denture involve?

November 23rd, 2009

Q. I have been told by my dentist that I am going to need to get my denture relined. This comes after I told him it felt more loose than usual. Could you please tell me what this actually is as I only have a vague idea?

A. hi many thanks for your email, a reline of a denture is placing more accrylic material on the fitting surface of the denture so the denture surface fits closer to the gums so is less loose. hope this is helpful.

Feels like hair is stuck on tongue while wearing dentures?

November 23rd, 2009

Q. A week ago I started wearing a complete denture for my upper mouth but now have a problem where it feels like there is something stuck on my tongue all the time. It feels like a hair or something but no matter what I do I can’t get rid of it? is there a problem with the denture?

A. Is the sensation present with the denture out. If so, it is not related to the denture. It is not clear what you may be experiencing but if you are concerned by it bring it to the attention of your dentist.

Is nightguard not fitting properly?

November 23rd, 2009

Q. My dentist gave me a night guard which was specially made for my bottom teeth. It was more a test to see if grinding my teeth at night is what is causing my problems. I wore it last night and now my teeth and jaw ache and I have a headache. Could the mouthguard not be fitting properly or something? It fits okay as far as I can tell but then why should it cause me more aggro?

A. It sounds as if it is not adjusted properly to your bite to relieve stress or perhaps it may not be the right type of appliance depending on what jaw problems you are having. Consult with your dentist as soon as possible so he is aware of your problem and can correct it.

Wisdom teeth are causing me great pain?

November 20th, 2009

Q. My wisdom teeth have been coming through for around the last year, at intermittent stages but it always comes back and hurts like hell. They have hardly come through though which makes me think there may be a problem. Will they eventually come through or should I get to my dentist?

A. I would recommend you see your dentist and have this evaluated. It sounds as if it is not going to get any better without treatment.

What affect does smoking have on oral health?

November 19th, 2009

Q. Would smoking about three times every fortnight have a really bad effect on teeth and gums or is this not too bad as it is quite a minimal amount? I clean my teeth regularly so that shoudl really keep it in check I think?

A. Smoking is not good for your health. There is no way to qualify that a little smoking is better than a lot of smoking. Maintaining good oral is hygiene is important regardless of your smoking.

Will delta dental coverage cover cost of treatment?

November 18th, 2009

Q. I reallly am impressed with the results that I have seen on the before and afters of your patients. I would like to know if you accept delta dental coverage? I have alot of work to be done this year with 95% of the remainder of my benefits. I would like to see if their is anything that you can do for me to have A BEAUTIFUL SMILE just like your other clients. Thank you! I hope to hear from you soon

A. Sorry for the tardiness of this answer…computer problems!!!  Thank you for the compliment, I appreciate it very much.  Some forms of Deltal we do accept.  However, understand that most smile make overs gain little if any support monetarily from the insurance companies.  The most you could expect is what your annual maximium would be.  I would be happy to evaluate you at no cost to you.  It would require your presence here in the office of course……
