What does the denture relining procedure involve?

Q.
What does the denture relining procedure involve?
A.
It involves taking new impressions in your existing denture to capture the shape of your bone and gums. The dentures are then relined with new plastic material to match the new shape and improve the fit. It is a simple procedure that can usually be completed in 24 hours. Dr. Lemongello

Is cracked tooth infected?

Q.
I cracked my tooth when I fell on a night out. It did not hurt all that much at the time time but now the tooth feels quite sensitive to cold water and even hot drinks. Is it possible that the nerve has been damaged? If I go to te dentist what can I expect?
A.
Definitely go to the dentist.  A cracked tooth can become infected.  Sometimes the response to heat or cold after trauma is normal.  It should be evaluated nonetheless.

What does getting a denture involve?

Q.
I am on the market to get a partial denture for my top teeth. Could you please tell me what the process of getting a denture actually involves. Do they take impressions of the mouth structure or something along those lines? Also, what is the expected life time of a denture?
A.
The process begins with impressions of your mouth. Depending on the type of partial a few fittings may be necessary before the final partial is complete. Life expectancy of a partial denture is approximately 10 years. Dr. Lemongello

What electric toothbrush would you recommend?

Q.
I have always used a normal toothbrush to clean my teeth but am going to take the step after hearing nothing but good things and go for the electric toothbrushes. However, I don’t jhave a clue which is a good brand or anything. could you give me an idea of what kind of things I should look out for?
A.
The top brands I would recommend are any of the Sonicare brushes. Braun makes a number of good brushes as well. Dr. Lemongello

Is there an extra cost for sedation during implant treatment?

Q.
I am going to get getting a dental implant but am worried about the pain and just generally the whole procedure. I deteste the dentist but want to have nice teeth. Is the sedation to be completely out of it I mean asleep by the way add to the price more? Am I able to do this or is it not safe for this procedure? What other options are there for someone like me?
A.
Implant placement is a relatively safe procedure.  You can request to be sedated to make the procedure more comfortable.  Because it is a minor surgery you can expect some post operative discomfort. But, this can be easily managed by medications.  There is usually an additional fee for any type of sedation service provided.

Does six-month smiles really last that long?

Q.
is six month smiles always able to achieve this treatment time or are there cases in which it goes over?
A.
I do not treat cases with Six Month Smiles but as with any orthodontic treatment the time needed to achieve the result you want may take a little longer. From what I understand most cases take approximately 6 months. Dr. Lemongello

Which brace system would you recommend?

Q.
Of the many different brace systems available on the market which one is actually quickest at getting the job done??? There are so many that it is hard to know which one is best for me. I care little about the aesthetic appearrance wearing the thing will have but just want to get the job done! Any help would be appreciatted!
A.
This question would best be directed to an orthodontist.  However, Invisalign systems do require the compliance of wearing the appliances.  If you do this treatement will progress at a good rate.

I hate my gummy smile, what can I do?

Q.
Hello Doctor,

i am pretty nervous when it comes to the dentist but i feel that I need treatment for my gummy smile. I am very self conscious about it, often refusing to smile and I have heard of gum contouring which i know involved cutting into gums. Is general anesthetic the only option or are there any places who offer the sedation option as I feel i would be a lot more comfortable with that. How long does it take to heal after the treatment is complete? Will i have very sore gums for a while?

thank you for your time

A.
Hello
This can be a very simple painless procedure in some case and in others it may require more invasive procedures. This of course has to addressed and answered by a dentist who can see you. I can refer you to someone if you let me know where you live.

What is better for my chipped tooth, cosmetic bonding or veneers?

Q.
Hello doctors,

i have recently had an injury which has left my front tooth chipped. I have been to my usual NHS dentist and they have confirmed that the tooth and root are stable and now I am looking for cosmetic treatments to give me back my smile. The front tooth is chipped at the left hand corner only a few millimetres and i was wondering what would be the better option veneers or cosmetic bonding?

Thanks for your time

A.
There are many factors to consider in order to find the best treatment for your situation. Generally, if the chip is small, cosmetic bonding is a reasonable option. Bonding however, does not last as long as a porcelain veneer. Consult with one or two doctors that are well qualified in this type of treatment. You may need to see someone outside the NHS if you want the best treatment. Dr. Lemongello
