Q.
What kind of products can you buy to clean the tongue? Is it not okay just to use the bristles of the toothbrush?
A.
You can use your tooth brush but it doesn’t do as well a job deep cleaning the surface of the tongue. There is a variety of different tongue cleaning devises available. All of them work well. Just pick a design you like. You will be amazed at what these devises will clean off your tongue and result in improved hygiene.

Q.
What kind of signs of tooth decay should you look out for children? Should I make sure that my kids clean teeth after every meal or is the twice a day once in the morning and once at night enough?
A.
Brushing at least twice a day is a must- after each meal would be ideal. Limiting sugary snacks and acidic juices will also help. Also, avoid putting a child down with a bottle at bedtime.
Q.
My ten month old daughter has just started
teething. cue sleepless nights. Whenever we put her down she will wake up after about 10 or 20 minutes crying due to the pain of it. Last night was a particularly sleepless night for me and my husband. Do you have any suggestions to help her sleep during the night, and just importantly, help me and my husband get a good night sleep?!
A.
I would recommend liquid Advil or Tylenol for infants. I would avoid any Ambisol or topical medication because it may just make it worse. Check with your Pediatrician to make sure there are no problems with your child taking medication. Dr. Lemongello
Q.
Do you know of a particular toothpaste or other tooth cleaning product which will help with stained teeth? I dont have the money available for teeth whitening but my teeth seem to have turned a nasty shade of yellow which is no doubt to me smoking regularly. i have cut down now but i guess it is too late.
A.
The action of toothpastes to impart a significant difference in the whitening of teeth is fairly limited. Whitening through bleaching is your best bet especially if most of the staining is from smoking.
Q.
I have crooked teeth but have always been put off braces. To this day that has not changed and I still don’t want braces. However I really want to have nice looking teeth so what other treatment options are there for crooked teeth? I dont want to lose my current teeth though as they are in good condition except for their positioning.
A.
There are only two ways to straighten your teeth. The first and ideal way if you have healthy teeth is some form of Orthodontics. If you don’t want braces, than Invisalign may be an option. The other is with porcelain veneers. Consult with a dentist that provides Invisalign to see if you are a candidate for treatment.

Q.
Hi Dr,i am loosing my lower teeth and i am looking at a cost of implant i like to know obaut clip on denture or clip on partial can you please give price for lower clip on denture .thank you.
A.
The fee for implant retained clip on dentures varies depending on the implant system used, whether the doctor performing the procedures is a qualified specialist and the type of denture made. It also varies depending on where you live. Because the fee can vary greatly I would do some research in your area to see what the approximate cost for this treatment would be. Dr. Lemongello
Q.
Just under two weeks ago I started using listerine mouthwash to help keep my teeth and gum clean. Seemed fine at first but I have now developed annoying and painful tooth sensivity, which i have not had a problem with before using listerine. Could they be related. Do you know of any patients that have had experience with this?
A.
I have never heard of Listerine creating tooth sensitivity. It is an alcohol based mouthrinse and can as a result of this cause the mouth to become more dry. I recommend non-alcohol based mouthrinses in my practice.
Q.
What kind iof treatment is possible through the use of lasers, seen as it is still relatively new in dentistry? Is it completely safe?
A.
There are different types of lasers used in dentistry. Some are for soft tissue (gum tissue) others are for hard tissure (teeth). The hard tissue lasers are limited in there capability and research is still ongoing for the next level in this area. Soft tissue lasers are well documented in their use and are a significant part of my practice. Use of these lasers is very safe.

Hello,
I am a 37 year old woman and have recently come into some money and would like one of the invisible braces. My teeth are very gapped, which is their main problem and I have quite a ’spread out’ smile. What brace system would you recommend as being the most effective and the one where far fewer relapses are recorded? Money isn’t too much of a worry so I don’t mind be recommended the higher end of the price spectrum
thanks again for your time
A.
Hello, sorry to hear about your problem
All forms of orthodontic treatment are equally effective but depend on the complexity. If your teeth are very gapped and spread out, the invisable braces like Invisalign may not be the best option. All orthodontic treatments require life time retention once completed. None are less proan to relapse. Consult with your dentist what is the best option for your situation. Dr. Lemongello
Q.
Hello Doctor, I wonder if you can help?
I have a full set of good teeth, but my problem is that when I smile they are not seen. Some times I am asked if I have no teeth and I am very self concious about this.
Is there any dental proceedure that can rectify this condition.I would like to have a nice smile.
Thank you for your time and any information you can give me
A.
It is difficult to advise you and diagnosis why you do not show teeth. There could be many factors involved such as: lip size, lip movement due to facial muscle, small upper and lower jaw bones, short teeth. There are a variety of solutions that may work such as: orthodontics, or veneers but it depends on the cause. I recommend you consult with a dentist to discuss your options. You may need to consult with more than one. Visit our website at www.lernerlemongello.com for examples of smile makeovers. Dr. Lemongello
