Q.
My dentist turned private over a year ago, but I could not afford to do this. I have been looking for an NHS dentist ever since but have not been able to find one with available places. Are there any special help services for people who are in my situation, like government initiatives?
A.
I am sorry, I am located in the US and we do not have NHS, only private practice. You may consider going to one of the dental schools. They often accept patients who need care but cannot afford private practice.
Q.
Would you be able to give me an estimate of how much it would cost to get 5 dental veneers? Also, would the type of veneer (porcelain for example) have an affect on the cost?
A.
hi, many thanks for your email, the cost of 5 porcelain veneers can vary dependant on which practice you chose to have the treatment done by and which technician is making the work. the cost per veneer can range from £500 – £1000. the type of veneer material is usually porcelain but many laboratory have now branded there veneers very much like clothing, so there are products such as mac veneers, lumineers, davinci veneers. do not be fooled though most are of similar quality and like buying into a brand can work out much more expensive. hope this is helpful.

Q.
I can not seem to get rid of my case of halitosis, no matter how good I clean my teeth and use mouthwash and other stuff. Could this be a sign of some underlying problem perhaps? Are there any available medicines or something I could get to help with it?
A.
Yes this could be the sign of an underlying problem. Decayed tooth structure, periodontal disease and diet can all affect the odor of your breath. These sources will unlikely be significantly affected by mouth rinse especially if it is an alcohol containing mouthrinse. Bad breath can also be a result of a gastro-intestinal disorder. Seek care first through your dentist.
Q.
Is there a limit to the number of treatments that you can get done as part of smile makeover? I am not exactly sure what this treatment involves, does it help to limit the cost of cosmetic treatment or something. Thank you in advance.
A.
hi many thanks for your email, the number of treatments required for a smile makeover are what is generally required to be done so the makeover is completed to a good standard. The number of treatments will unfortunately increase the cost of treatment so it is always important to have an idea of budget when considering such treatments. My advice would be to initially have a consultation to understand more what is needed to improve your smile and general costs involved.
hope this is helpful.

Q.
How often is it that you need to get checked out if you get full dentures? Would it just be like the normal six-month check up or would there be more support?
A.
It is a good idea to be seen on a 6 month basis.
Q.
Which would you say is the quicker option at straightening teeth between invisalign and fixed braces? I don’t mind having train tracks on my teeth if I know they are going to get the job done quicker.
A.
hi many thanks this question the answer is simple in 9 out of 10 cases a fixed brace will work quicker than invisalign.

Q.
Would you know which toothpaste available at shops or chemists which is the best and fastest choice for getting teeth whitened? Are they actually woth the monet or are the results not all that great?
A.
So called “whitening toothpastes” are usually very abrasive and they typically only will work on teeth that have minor superfical stain. Bleaching is the best choice to attempt improvement in whitening the teeth.
Q.
What happens to my normal crooked teeth if I get lumineers? Are they still able to stay in a good condition through normal teeth cleaning or are they more prone to food getting stuck and decay?
A.
With all types of porcelain veneers the tooth is reshaped as minimal as possible and sometimes not at all leaving the tooth in its best possible condition. You treat veneers like natural teeth with normal cleanings. Veneered teeth are generally not prone to decay but it can occur as with any dental restoration.
