Q. How often is it necessary to visit the dentist? I go every six months but then there seems to be the need for some workj to do. Would going maybe every three months help to improve the state of my teeth?
A. This may be a good idea. I would talk to your dentist about your concern and see what they recommend.

Q. I have what I have to admit is relatively bad dental phobia, so much so that I have not been to the dentist in three years. I do my best to eat few sweets and clean my teeth as I should but I know how important it is to go to the dentist. My old dentist just didn’t understand how much I fewared the dentist and him for that matter. I get really anxious just walking by a dentist practice. Is there any help for people like me?
A. hi many thanks for your email, i think you need to try to find a practice that will look after you both dentally and mentally. hope this is helpful.

Q. Do you have any advice on how to choose a dentist that is right for you? I guess some are more ethical or skilled or nicer. Are those who offer lower costs not going to do a good eough job, but then, are those who charge too much just wanting to boost the size of their wallet?
A. These are all good concerns. I often recommend you contact a Specialists dental office such as a Periodontist and ask them for a referral to a General dentist. The specialist has the opportunity to work with many different dentists. Another good way to find a dentist is by referral from a friend, family or co-worker who has seen the dentist and would recommend them.

Q. I know that when it comes to dental implants the implant needs to be give time to heal and that a temporary tooth is given to close the gap. What cost does this tooth replacement have as I think I would rather save my money if it is quite high?
A. You do not need a temporary tooth if you do not want one. The only time you may need a temporary is if it is a front tooth and the temporary is used to grow and shape the gum tissue so the final implant looks as natural as possible. The area may actually heal better undisturbed. Save your money and spend it on the needed implant. Replacement of the tooth is the most important thing.

Q. My 14 months old baby/child managed to fall flat on her face and not crack but lose completely one of her front teeth. I am concerned that she will now not have any tooth there until her permanent teeth come through, which is years and years away. Should I go to the dentist to have her checked over or is she too young for this?
A. This should not be a problem. Sometimes the eruption sequence of the permanent teeth may be affected. You may want to consult a Pediatric dentist just to make sure there are no problems. Most likely, she will be without a front tooth until the permanent tooth comes in.

Q. When I was younger I had to have many of those horrible silver looking fillings. Now, I am sick and tired of seeing them when I look in the mirror with my mouth open. Can I get them replaced with the newer better looking ones or are you not allowed to until the other ones have come to their end?
A. You can have these silver fillings replaced any time you decide to. If they are that old you may be surprised to find out that some of them have decay underneath but you don’t know it! You may be happy to have them removed.
