Is my gum disease still affecting my teeth?

Q.
Hi Dr. Kirtley; My question is that I use to have a gum disease when I was younger whiched cause my teeth to spread apart. It’s been years since I been to the dentist and I want to know is there any chance that the gum disease is still affective and what are the effects of it not being treated properly or in a timely manner. I would love to have a beautiful smile with no spacing, but at this time I do not have dental insurance and I will need to pay out of pocket. Is there any way you could guide me into the right dentist chair that will be friendly and non costly to restore my smile. I live in the suburbs, north of Chicago. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you for your question.  Gum disease is the most challenging condition to restor because of the loss of bone that sometimes accompanies it.  Seeing a good dentist is paramount.  I would recommend Dr. Dean Lodding in the Chicago area.  If you Google his name it will give you the location.
