Q. Last month my jaw started clicking when I open my mouth to eat, speak or even laugh. I am worried there may be a serious problem. There is no pain but the sound is still worrying. Any advice?
A. What is happening is the cartilage in your jaw joint is beginning to change position when you open and close, creating this sound. A fair amount of our population has a jaw joint that does this and it is not a problem. However, sometimes this can become more serious. I would recommend you see a dentist who understands problems that occur with your jaw joint. Your general dentist may or may not treat this, so you may have to ask or do some research in your area for someone who specializes in TMJ problems. Dr. Lemongello
