Is invisalign able to treat open bites?

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Q. Are invisalign braces able to treat spaces between the front teeth and also an open bite? Would I be better going with fixed braces or can invislaign do this?

A. Invisalign can treat a multitude of alignment problems.  Open bites however can be more problematic and fixed braces are probably a better consideration.

What alternatives are there to braces for straightening teeth?

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Q. I have crooked teeth but have always been put off braces. To this day that has not changed and I still don’t want braces. However I really want to have nice looking teeth so what other treatment options are there for crooked teeth? I dont want to lose my current teeth though as they are in good condition except for their positioning.

A. There are only two ways to straighten your teeth. The first and ideal way if you have healthy teeth is some form of Orthodontics. If you don’t want braces, than Invisalign may be an option. The other is with porcelain veneers. Consult with a dentist that provides Invisalign to see if you are a candidate for treatment.

Are fixed braces quicker than invisalign?

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Q. I have been approved for invisalign but am also thinking about getting fixed braces, as I don’t care if people can see the braces. However, I was wondering if you could tell me which would be the quicker treatment?

A. The speed of treatment is usually faster with fixed braces.  This is generally because there is not the compliance concern as there is with invisalign when the patient has to be depended upon to wear the appliances.

Which is best out of lingual and invisalign braces?

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Q. Which are the more popular out of lingual and invisalign braces? Which would you say it the better choice for straightening crooked teeth? Which are more easily available at clinics?

A. hi many thanks for your email, lingual braces are conventional braces but instead of being stuck on the fronts of the teeth they are stuck on the backs of your teeth. there are a very good way to striaghten crooked teeth.

Invisalign is a clear brace system which uses aligners. Aligners are thin clear plastic gum shields which are placed into the mouth over two weeks, the aligner moves the teeth to a certain position and then you remove that aligner and place the next aligner in the mouth. this happens until the teeth are striaght. it can take longer to correct crooked teeth with this type of treatment.

i would say invisalign is a very popular treatment as more general dentist can perform this type of treatment whereas lingual braces is more complexed to perform so less dentists are confident in doing this treatment.

Is invisalign express the same price as normal invisalign?

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Q. Is invisalign express the same price as the normal invisalign service at clinics?

A. Invisalign express is slightly cheaper than invisalign at most clinics, it requires less aligners and treatments times are said to be smaller, but the type of cases it treats is much less.

hope this is helpful.

What is the difference between invisalign and lingual braces?

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Q. What is the difference between invisalign and lingual braces? Are they not both supposed to be practically invisible when wearing them?

A. hi many thanks for your email, invisalign is a removable clear brace which works by using many aligners to move the teeth, each aligner is designed to move the teeth slightly, each aligner is worn for two weeks and then replaced with the next aligner in the sequence. the aligners look like a see through gum shield so when wearing the aligner its practically invisible.

lingual braces is a fixed metal brace, but instead of it being fixed to the front of the teeth(traditional method) it is attached to the back of the teeth(lingual surface) so they are practically invisable unless you look careful at the back of the teeth.

hope this clears that up.

What happens once invisalign treatment is complete?

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

Q. Once treatment is complete for invisalign is that it, all finished? I understand there is the need to wear retainers, but I am concerned after reading that some dentists recommend you wear them ‘forever’. Is this true? Is the possibility of retention all that bad?

A. After any type of orthodontic treatment life time retention is needed. If you dont wear the retainers at night the teeth will shift. Wearing retainers at night, especially the invisalign type is not that difficult. Dr. Lemongello

Are veneers or braces best for straight teeth?

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

Q. I have never been all that happy with my teeth. They are not all that straight and I hate the look of them. I am looking into braces and veneers. Veneers becuase it seems like a quick procedure, but I also feel that it would be nice to have my teeth being completely natural. Would you have an opinion on such a matter, or is it down to individual cases?

A. The choice comes down to this: once straightened, are you going to like the appearance of your teeth?  Orthodontics can straighten alignment, but if the shape, size, or color of each individual tooth is not esthetically pleasing, you may still be unhappy with the appearance.  I would suggest that you find a dentist who can offer a cosmetic imaging simulation through Envision A Smile software that can show your face with a newly designed smile before treatment is started.  This will help you decide.

What treatment is available to fix gaps between front teeth?

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

Q. Can you please inform me of the treatment options available to close the gap between the two front teeth. This has been the vain of my existence for as long as I can remember and I am desperate to get it sorted.

A. There are 3 main treatment options to close the gap between your teeth, depending on the situation. They are Orthodontics (braces or Invisalign), composite bonding or porcelain veneers. All have advantages and disadvantages, so investigate them all prior to your final choice. Dr. Lemongello
