I need extractions, implants and root canal work, is there anywhere I can receive all these treatments at once?

Wednesday, September 7th, 2011
Q.
I have extreme issues with my teeth and mouth. I grew up on well water and had no dental care. 15 years ago I went to a dentist to work on my mouth. I have been to numerous dentist since but everytime I go, they begin drilling, a tooth cracks they fill it temporarily and send me to another specialist and it happens again. About two years ago I quit trying to get it fixed. I have some dental insurance and can pay to get it fixed but I need to be able to go one place to fix it all. I will need extractions, implants and root canals. Can your office truly do it all or would I have to go to someone else to get the major work done. Thank you.
A.
Unfortunately it is very difficult to complete all dental treatment in one office. No one can be an expert in everything. We do provide all aspects of reconstructive dentistry including root canals and Invisalign. The only exception is dental surgery. With surgery and implants in particular you want a specialist in surgery to provide this aspect of your care, not just a general dentist who took a weekend course. Most importantly we can act as your “quarterback” in all aspects of care and complete treatment. We can coordinate all referrals and streamline your dental visits to complete your treatment often in as little as 2 to 3 visits. Naturally we would need to start with a complete examination and consult you on your options. Once complete we can discuss a plan that is right for you. Visit our website at www.lernerlemongello.com for more information or call to schedule a consultation. It would be a pleasure to help you. Dr. Lemongello

Can my 12 year old daughter have braces to straighten her ‘buck’ teeth?

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011
Q.
hi

My 12 year old daughter has buck teeth because of pacifier chewing and i just wanted to know what braces you would recommend. I just wanted to check also that she is old enough for braces, as I wouldn’t want to be doing any damage in my eagerness to straighten out her teeth.

thank you for your time and I hope you can be of assistance.

A.
Hello and thank you for getting in touch.
Orthodontic treatment including the likes of Invisalign or traditional braces would be a good option for your daughter’s condition. You would however first need to consult with a certified dentist to find out which is the best option for her situation.  Twelve years old is fine to get started on straightening teeth though in the most part. We often start even earlier to capture growth and development curves.Hope this helps and good luck. Hope all goes well. Dr. Lemongello

What is the best way to correct crossbite?

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011
Q.
hello doctors i wonder if you could help with my situation please
I currently suffer from a very severe crossbite, which is having a profound effect on my actual speaking, eating and overall self esteem. I would really like to get this sorted out with necessary treatment and soon, but i guess there may be different ways to correct this problem. could you therefore recommend the way in which you would correct it?

thank you for your time and all the best

A.
The choice of treatment would be based on how bad the crossbite is and whether there is a need to restore your teeth as well. My first choice, if your teeth are healthy would be orthodontic correction with braces. If your teeth are worn and require treatment a restorative option may be needed. Visit our website at www.lernerlemongello.com. You can review an article in the media section I published on correction of a crossbite with a restorative option. Dr. Lemongello

I have very stained teeth, which whitening treatments can’t change, what are my options?

Thursday, August 11th, 2011
Q.
hello

I have extremely stained teeth from antibiotics i had to have as a child. I have tried teeth whitening, both at home and in salons and they just haven’t work to any proper degree. I have been looking at veneers and i really like the look of them, but am a bit worried about the amount of damage they will do to my teeth. Do you have to have so much enamel shaved off, or do i have any other options for my stained teeth?

thank you

A.
I completely understand your concern. I too suffered from the same problem. Unfortunately, there are no whitening products that work. The only option is porcelain veneers. Fortunately, there is no need to worry. Only a minimal amount of tooth needs to be smoothed away, about the thickness of a business card. I have had my veneers for more than 12 years and have been happy with my choice since the first day. Visit our website www.lernerlemongello.com to view some beautiful results. Let me know if we can help. Dr. Lemongello

Im not happy with my smile after braces, what should I do?

Thursday, August 11th, 2011
Q.
Hello. I got my braces taken off a year ago, and I am unhappy with the results. My bite is misaligned, and because of this, my mid line does not match up, my smile is crooked, and I have to move my lower jaw to the left in order for my back teeth to touch/bite down. I have expressed my concerns to my ortho but he insists everything is okay. What should I do? Thanks for your help.
A.
I would recommend you seek another opinion and if necessary additional opinions. Keep in mind though that your situation may be the best result possible due to circumstances that are specific to you. It also may be the best result that can be accomplished by the dentist you have been seeing. Once you have additional opinions regarding the result you can also make decisions of what options are available to correct any remaining problems. Perhaps that means treatment with another dentist. Visit our website at www.lernerlemongello.com to view cases where changes like yours were necessary to create a beautiful balanced smile and bite. Many cases Dr. Lemongello

What can I do to prevent getting dry mouth when I wake up?

Thursday, July 21st, 2011
Q.
Each morning I wake up I have this horrible dry mouth. This is really disgusting and has been bothering me for about two weeks now. Do many people get this? Is there anything I can do about it?
A.

Many people experience dry mouth.  There are many causes such as mouth breathing due to sinus problems or as a resulting side effect from medication.  You can discuss this with your dentist who may have advice for you specific needs. Stay hydrated as much as possible.

How long do fillings usually last?

Thursday, July 21st, 2011
Q.
I just had a filling put in on my upper right teeth toward the back. I would just like to know the life span of fillings. Are they supposed to last quite a bit of time? Does this depend on the type of filling you receive?
A.

If a filling was all that was needed and it was performed in a conscientious manor than it should last many years.  Dr. Lemongello

What are the causes of canker sores?

Thursday, July 21st, 2011
Q.
I get canker sores quite often, This is something my mother usually gets as well, so I suppose it must be genetic in some respects. Is there something I can do to try and stop this from ahppening? Is it to do with oral hygiene?
A.

It is still unknown exactly why some people are prone to Canker sores.  It does not have to do with hygiene.  It is suspected to be systemic in nature with certain factors contributing to their occurrence.  Some of these things are trauma to the tissue and certain acidic foods in the diet such as citrus.         Dr. Lemongello

Do dentists offer special services for people with epilepsy?

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011
Q.
I was recently diagnosed with epliepsy, and am concerned that I may have an episode during treatment. Have you had any experience with epileptic patients and would you be able to offer me any advice?
A.

Advise your dentist about your seizers. If your seizers are in an active state I would avoid dental treatment. As long as you take your medication and your seizers are under control you should not be concerned.
