Q. I’m considering braces just to fix some mildly crooked teeth, for cosmetic reasons obviously but I currently have dental veneers on several of my teeth so can I have braces over these? Or will it ruin them? thanks
A.
You can have braces over veneers just let the dentist know. Perhaps you should consider Invisalign instead. This way no braces will be placed on the teeth at all. Dr. Lemongello

Q. Is there such thing as teeth shrinking? My two front teeth are a lot larger than the rest of my teeth and they’re causing me a lot of annoyance, my self confidence is very low because of them. Please help me out as to what treatments may be available to me! thank you.
A. Teeth do not shrink. They can wear down and or the gum can grow over them making them shorter. Perhaps the two front teeth are getting longer and growing out of the gum do to your bite making them look long and the others short. Consult with a dentist to see whta is happening and have them make a recommendation on treatment. Dr. Lemongello

Q. I have dental fluorosis and because of this my teeth are RUINED. What can I do to fix them? Would dental veneers help in my case? I don’t know what to do or who to turn to. Thank you.
A. Yes, veneers would be the solution to your problem. Fluorosis discolors the teeth in a very dramatic way. This is a situation that would need to be treated by someone of excellent qualifications. If you are from the the UK there are a number of dentists available who would be good choices. If you have interest in pursuing this notify me and I will help you get directed. Q. Hi, I’m from the UK and just about to move to the south west of the US. I’m currently undergoing invisalign here and wondered if I could still carry it on in the US? If so do you know of anyone in the region who could help me? Thank you.
A. Once you arrive in the US go to the Invisalign website and look up doctors listed there. Explain your situation and someone may be willing to take on the case. Unfortunately you may incur some additional expense to finish your treatment with another doctor. Dr. Lemongello

Q. I had two fillings placed a long time ago and now one of them is falling out in bits, it was an amalgam filling and I believed that it was going to be permanent, I was just wondering if the white fillings are believed to be permanent? I don’t want to have to keep replacing them,
A. Like everything else in life nothing lasts forever. All dental restorations have a life expectancy and will need to be replaced sometime in the future. Your natural tooth is a permanent tooth but even it didn’t last forever. The goal is to choice the best material for the situation that will provide the longest service. Dr. Lemongello

Q. Are there many types of mini dental implants? Are th e ones that are available now different ?
A. There are only a few brands of mini implants available. This type of implant has remained unchanged except for their use. Initially they were considered temporary implants. Now they are used for long term. Traditional implants are still much more predictable and offer greater flexibility to restore teeth. Traditional implants cost more but provide a better long term predictable result. Dr. Lemongello

Q. Hi, I am in dire need of a full mouth reconstruction. Over the years, I’ll admit I haven’t looked at me teeth as good as I should have and the majority of fallen out, as a result of this my mouth now appears to be fallen to one side. My front teeth have decayed badly and my gums bleed a lot. I know I should get this looked at but I can’t afford dental care and I have a major phobia of the dentist. What do you recommend I do? Thank you Dr.
A. Dentistry has changed in many positive ways. You are going to have to contain your fear and seek the help of a dentist. Many dentists are trained in conscious sedation to reduce your fear and anxiety. Unfortunately, extensive dental treatment can be costly. Start by consulting with a qualified dentist who specializes in complex dentistry. You can then discuss your options and cost of treatment. Financing may be necessary. Dr. Lemongello

Q. i had 2 teeth extracted a few weeks ago (one of them was a bottom wisdom tooth) anyway my bottom jaw (where i had them removed) is very swollen and painful after these weeks, the sockets are bleeding and i’m due to see my dentist tomorrow but just wondered if it may be infected? If this is the case what can be done? i’m worried that i’m going to lose bone.
A. You should not lose bone. The dentist you will be seeing likely will treat this with a medication that will resolve your problem.

Q. Hello, is there such treatment available that can actually remove excess gums through surgery? You can’t see my teeth that great because I have such large gums! Any advice would be excellent, thank you.
A. Yes, there is treatment to reduce excessive gum tissue to expose more of your teeth. Consult with a Periodontist or gum specialist to review your options. Dr. Lemongello

Q. I was given a mouth guard to stop my grinding habits a few months ago and I’ve just finished my brace treatment but was told i need to pay for the retainer. Can my mouth guard act as a retainer for now? I was using invisalign and the retainers are pretty expensive and weren’t included within my treatment.
A. That is up to the doctor treating the case.
