Is it possible to have a full set of dental implants?

Friday, February 25th, 2011
Q.
I’m considering dental implants to replace my annoying dentures, can you get a full mouth set of implants? If so how much would they be? Also, would you advise doing this?
A.
With todays implant technology it is possible to replace all your teeth with implants.  There are many other implant combination and restorative possibilities available as well depending on your financial situation.  The cost can vary greatly based on your location and the expertise of the dentist.  I would recommend you seek a consultation with a qualified implant specialist. Can you recommend the best type of denture?

Thursday, February 24th, 2011
Q.
can you recommend the best type of dentures out there? Either removable or flexible whatever.. I’m considering them because i have gum disease and have been told my teeth are going to fall out or be extracted thank you.
A.
The best denture is one supported by dental implants. A conventional denture made of rigid material with high quality denture teeth custom fitted for esthetics and a good bite is what I would recommend. Stay away from the cheep denture clinics. These are usually cheaper materials and the doctors will take little time to custom fit for esthetics and function.   Dr. Lemongello

Thursday, February 17th, 2011
Q.
Is it at all possoble to have implants and dentures put in on the same day?
A.
Yes, this is usually described as teeth in a day.  Obviously some pre-planning is required but handled properly this treatment works out very well.  Dr. Lemongello

I have a bad gag reflex with dentures. Can you inform me of any alternatives?

Thursday, February 17th, 2011
Q.
I find that I get a very bad gag reflex with dentures. Can you tell me of any alternatives please?
A.
Usually, gagging is associated with the size and thickness of the denture.  To reduce gagging the denture can be adjusted to a smaller size but this will compromise its fit and security.  A good option would be having at least 2 dental implants placed to hold the denture so it can be greatly reduced in size allowing greater comfort and security for you.  Dr. Lemongello

Thursday, February 17th, 2011
Q.
I AM CURRENTLY GOING TO HAVE TOOTH 8 TAKEN OUT AND MY DENTIST HAS ADVISED ME THAT SHE IS GOING TO PUT A DENTURE THERE,NOW MY PROBLEM IS 7 IS MISSING 6,9,10 ALSO NEED TO BE WORKED ON,WOULDNT IT BE BETTER IF THE DENTIST DONE A BRIDGE INSTEAD.I AM NOT TOO KEEN ON DENTURES AND WONDERED IF THE BRIDGE WOULD BE POSSIBLE.MY THANKS IN RETURN
A.
It sounds as if you are a candidate for a bridge depending on the health of the remaining teeth.  If you prefer a bridge discuss this with the dentist.  Dr. Lemongello

Does it take long to get used to partial dentures?

Monday, September 21st, 2009
Q.
I am going to be getting partial dentures for my bottom teeth next week. I was just wondering how long it generally takes to get used to it. Would I be okay going back to work the same day or should I take a day or two off? I work as a receptionist.

A.
A new partial denture can take time to get used to. You may require an adjustment or two but I don’t think you will need to take time off work.

my gums are covering my wisdom teeth

Monday, September 14th, 2009
Q.
The 2 back teeth (located before the wisdom teeth) in my mouth have been completely covered by gum tissue. All 4 of my wisdom teeth have been removed. What is the name of the condition, what causes it, and how can it be fixed? Can it lead to a cavity?

A.

most likely your teeth were never able to fully erupt because of this overlying gum tissue.  This condition is important to correct.  Partial coverage of the gum tissue over the tooth can predispose the tooth to decay.  Additionally, because of the gum tissue covering the tooth, it has been prevented from fully erupting into the mouth.  This prevents its proper use in chewing.  It can be corrected through removal of the gum tissue either by excision or through laser treatment.  Obviously it would be important to have this evaluated by your dentist or an oral surgeon.
