Feels like hair is stuck on tongue while wearing dentures?

Thursday, April 21st, 2011
Q.
A week ago I started wearing a complete denture for my upper mouth but now have a problem where it feels like there is something stuck on my tongue all the time. It feels like a hair or something but no matter what I do I can’t get rid of it? is there a problem with the denture?
A.
Is the sensation present with the denture out. If so, it is not related to the denture. It is not clear what you may be experiencing but if you are concerned by it bring it to the attention of your dentist.

What does relining of denture involve?

Thursday, April 21st, 2011
Q.
I have been told by my dentist that I am going to need to get my denture relined. This comes after I told him it felt more loose than usual. Could you please tell me what this actually is as I only have a vague idea?
A.
hi many thanks for your email, a reline of a denture is placing more accrylic material on the fitting surface of the denture so the denture surface fits closer to the gums so is less loose. hope this is helpful.

Pricing for upper and lower implants is too low. What can I do?

Thursday, April 21st, 2011
Q.
i have been to Clear choices and found that the pricing is so far from anything i feel i can afford even though they offered free financing. please give me a ball park quote on full upper and lower implants.
A.
The pricing will vary depending on where you live as well as the expertise of the person rendering the treatment. Additionally, the fee will vary due to how many implants are used. An implant supported upper denture with 2 implants and lower implant supported denture with 2 implants could easily cost $8 to $10 thousand dollars. A full reconstruction with 6-12 implants could reach $75-$80 thousand dollars. Dr. Lemongello

How many teeth do I need to be able to have a partial denture?

Thursday, March 24th, 2011
Q.
I am missing quite a few teeth. How many teeth do I need to have to get a partial denure fitted?
A.
You can have a partial denture fitted with just one tooth or many teeth. A dentist will have to determine if you have enough teeth left to support a partial denture. Dr. Lemongello

What is an immediate denture?

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011
Q.
My dentist has said that I will be able to get immiediate dentures after I get my wholte top teeth removed. This was because of a severe case of gum disease which I am now getting through. Could you please tell me what these are and how they are any different from normal dentures?
A.
An immediate denture is placed at the same time the teeth are extracted.  This allows the patient not to have to go without teeth.

Any circumstances when dentures cannot be fitted?

Monday, March 14th, 2011
Q.
Are they any circumstances where a denture can not be fitted? I ask becuase I have had to have several teeth removed and when I next go to the dentist I am sure the rest of them are going to be needed to be removed. This is all becuase I have dental phobia.
A.
Usually there is not a problem fitting dentures. Stay positive and relax. Dental treatment can create anxiety but most of the time everything goes smoothly and there is no need to be so phobic in the first place. Talk to your dentist and let them know how you feel.

What are mini implants used for?

Thursday, March 10th, 2011
Q.
Are mini implants just another option when it comes to dental implants or do they do a different job entirely and are used for a different purpose when it coems to replacing mssing teeth?
A.
No, in my opinion there are very few indications for mini implants. They were originally designed as temporary implants. The only place I would recommend them is to hold in a full lower denture only when finances are a major concern. Conventional implants are significantly better in all situations.

How long after tooth extraction to get dentures?

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011
Q.
All my teeth are going to be extracted in order to get a denture, but how long will it take to get the denture when moulds are taken? Will I just have to walk around with no teeth for this time or can I be offerred a short term replacement?
A.
I recommend you discuss with your dentist an immediate denture. Molds are taken and the denture is made before your teeth are extracted, this way you do not go without teeth. After healing takes place the immediate denture can be modified to fit better or a new denture can be made.

What treatment is there for missing teeth?

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011
Q.
Three years ago I had a tooth knocked out when I fell flat on my face. I didn’t get it treated as I didn’t have the money and the gum has started to cover the area. What treatment can be used to replace this tooth and give me a better smile?
A.
There are multiple possibilities depending on the health of the adjacent teeth and the amount of gum and bone lost due to the loss of the tooth.  The options are:

1. Dental implant and crown
2. Bonded bridge.
3. Conventional fixed bridge
4. Removable partial denture to replace the missing tooth.
All of these have advantages and disadvantages that should be discussed with a dentist.  Dr. Lemongello
