What is the cost of partial and complete dentures?

Monday, June 20th, 2011
Q.
How many teeth can be missing for me to be able to get a partial denture rather than a complete denture? How much would either one cost if you could give me an estimate?
A.
hi many thanks for your email, a partial denture can be just for one tooth, upto i suppose all the teeth in the jaw bar one. the full denture is when there are no teeth in the jaw and so fully replaced by teeth on the denture.

Partial denture cost £200 – £1500
full denture cost £500 – £2000

hope this is helpful.

Why does dentist say my denture needs relining?

Monday, June 20th, 2011
Q.
I have now had my denture for a total of four years and have not had any problems with it as far as I can see, but now my dentist has said that it going to need to be relined? If everything seems okay as far as I know then is it really necessary, and more to the point I don’t really even know what denture relining is? could there be a problem that I am not aware of? Thanks, Bob.
A.
Bob,

Relining is indicated when the denture and soft tissue beneath it do not closely adhere.  This causes movement in the denture while in function causing irritation of the gum tissue and resorbtion of bone.  Good fit of the denture is imperitive to maintain optimum soft tissue and bone health.;

Why does denture now feel loose?

Monday, June 20th, 2011
Q.
I have had my complete denture for my upper teeth for five years now. Everything has been okay but I am noticing that it does not feel as securely in place as it once did. Does this happen for many people? Is there anything I can do?
A.

it is ususally necessary to have a denture relined after a period of time of wear.  This will most likely alleviate the problem you are having.

What does the denture relining procedure involve?

Monday, June 20th, 2011
Q.
What does the denture relining procedure involve?
A.
It involves taking new impressions in your existing denture to capture the shape of your bone and gums. The dentures are then relined with new plastic material to match the new shape and improve the fit. It is a simple procedure that can usually be completed in 24 hours. Dr. Lemongello

What does getting a denture involve?

Monday, June 20th, 2011
Q.
I am on the market to get a partial denture for my top teeth. Could you please tell me what the process of getting a denture actually involves. Do they take impressions of the mouth structure or something along those lines? Also, what is the expected life time of a denture?
A.
The process begins with impressions of your mouth. Depending on the type of partial a few fittings may be necessary before the final partial is complete. Life expectancy of a partial denture is approximately 10 years. Dr. Lemongello

Would I still be a good candidate for dental implants?

Monday, June 6th, 2011
Q.
Hello doctors, My case is that  I have worn dentures for a number of years now but the annoyance and sometimes even the embarrassment of wearing them has never truly stopped. I have heard about dental implants for braces, which i think sounds smashing if I may say so, but in the as I am quite old my jaw is as strong as it used to be and i wonder would this hinder having the procedure? If that is so, is there anything that I can do? I hope you can provide me with an answer about this doctors.   Thank you very much for your time Doctors
A.
Hello and thank you for your enquiry. Most people remain candidates for dental implants throughout their life regardless of age. Only in the most advanced of cases will dental implants not be an option. I would consult with someone qualified in placement of dental implants to discuss your options. Hope that helps. What can be done for loose denture?

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011
Q.
I have had my denture for around four years now and have had no problems before. Obviously it took time to get used to it but ever since then… Now it feels slightly loose and I am worried that it may fall out and break when I laugh or talk too enthusiastically. Is there anything that can be done to stop this?
A.
Relining a denture will likely help this situation.  Also, the use of adhesives can temporarily give you the confidence of a secure fit.

How long does it take to fit implants?

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011
Q.
How long do implants take to fit from first consultation to last? I work overseas and will be back in the country for a whirlwind visit. My teeth are on there last legs and my goal is dental implants, but at a pinch I would get temporary dentures. thanks
A.
There are a number of factors that need to be considered. With traditional treatment typically the time frame is 3-6 months start to finish. You can plan the treatment in about a week and transition to a set of temporay dentures so you will never be without teeth. After the implants heal, you can return and have the denture attached or fitted to the implants. The other option is plan the treatment and if at least 5-8 implants can be placed the dentures can be attached that day. You then heal and return in about 3 months for a final set of detures. If necessary we can coordinate these appointments for you. Dr. Lemongello

I think I may be allergic to my dentures, can you use any other material to make them?

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011
Q.
I have had a top denture for 38 yrs with no problem, however I have had my lower bridges removed and one implant put in at the front, not having had bottom back teeth for 38 yrs and having lost a lot of bone my dentist is having difficulty with the fitting which is very painful and I am going back sometimes 2 or 3 times a week for bits removed or added but after 10 month I am getting desperate that I will never again be out of pain, on top of that I have had a new denture made and my palate is red sore and burning at times I am in tears with it, my doctor said it is not thrush and my dentist does not know what is causing it as the top denture fits well. I do have allergies to certain things and wondered if I could be allergic to the new denture, the lab have said they will make a top denture without monomer on the palate but the gums will have it in. Please please could you advise me I am now getting so depressed over it my life is a nightmare of constant pain. could I have a full top denture made with something other than acrylic and also a bottom one that could house my implant? I would appreciate any help you can give me.
thank you
regards
A.
I am sorry to hear of your unfortunate situation. I would see if the dentist and laboratory are willing to fabricate you a denture out of a material low in or without monomer. It may be the monomer causing the discomfort. Unfortunately, lower dentures are very, very difficult under the best circumstances to fit and make comfortable. I would consider having at least 4 implants placed in the lower jaw so the denture can attach to it. This will stabilize it and provide stopping points on the implants instead of the delicate gum tissue with little bone causing pain. I understand this will be a significant investment but may be your best chance for success. Dr. Lemongello

Q.
Hello Drs Lerner and Lemengello. I would like to sincerely thank you for your response to my question but Im still unclear on the matter. I need a full set of teeth on both top and bottom and was quoted for two titanium posts for each full denture and two full sets of dentures. I have removable, regular dentures on the top and need five loose teeth pulled on the bottom so that i can have two full sets. please give me a ballpark quote. most of this damage was due to a car accident many years ago. It would be so wonderful to have permanent teeth again.
sincerely;
A.
Hello and thank you for your question. It is not possible to give you a quote on the cost for dental procedures without examining your situation. I would recommend you consult with at least 2 different dentists in your area to get an idea of what your treatment will cost. I hope that is of some assistance on the matter.  Dr. Lemongello
