Feels like hair is stuck on tongue while wearing dentures?

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Q. A week ago I started wearing a complete denture for my upper mouth but now have a problem where it feels like there is something stuck on my tongue all the time. It feels like a hair or something but no matter what I do I can’t get rid of it? is there a problem with the denture?

A. Is the sensation present with the denture out. If so, it is not related to the denture. It is not clear what you may be experiencing but if you are concerned by it bring it to the attention of your dentist.

What can be done for loose denture?

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Q. I have had my denture for around four years now and have had no problems before. Obviously it took time to get used to it but ever since then… Now it feels slightly loose and I am worried that it may fall out and break when I laugh or talk too enthusiastically. Is there anything that can be done to stop this?

A. Relining a denture will likely help this situation.  Also, the use of adhesives can temporarily give you the confidence of a secure fit.

What does getting a denture involve?

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Q. I am on the market to get a partial denture for my top teeth. Could you please tell me what the process of getting a denture actually involves. Do they take impressions of the mouth structure or something along those lines? Also, what is the expected life time of a denture?

A. The process begins with impressions of your mouth. Depending on the type of partial a few fittings may be necessary before the final partial is complete. Life expectancy of a partial denture is approximately 10 years. Dr. Lemongello

What does the denture relining procedure involve?

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Q. What does the denture relining procedure involve?

A. It involves taking new impressions in your existing denture to capture the shape of your bone and gums. The dentures are then relined with new plastic material to match the new shape and improve the fit. It is a simple procedure that can usually be completed in 24 hours. Dr. Lemongello

Why does denture now feel loose?

Friday, November 6th, 2009

Q. I have had my complete denture for my upper teeth for five years now. Everything has been okay but I am noticing that it does not feel as securely in place as it once did. Does this happen for many people? Is there anything I can do?

A.

it is ususally necessary to have a denture relined after a period of time of wear.  This will most likely alleviate the problem you are having.

Why does dentist say my denture needs relining?

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Q. I have now had my denture for a total of four years and have not had any problems with it as far as I can see, but now my dentist has said that it going to need to be relined? If everything seems okay as far as I know then is it really necessary, and more to the point I don’t really even know what denture relining is? could there be a problem that I am not aware of? Thanks, Bob.

A. Bob,

Relining is indicated when the denture and soft tissue beneath it do not closely adhere.  This causes movement in the denture while in function causing irritation of the gum tissue and resorbtion of bone.  Good fit of the denture is imperitive to maintain optimum soft tissue and bone health.;

What is the cost of partial and complete dentures?

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

Q. How many teeth can be missing for me to be able to get a partial denture rather than a complete denture? How much would either one cost if you could give me an estimate?

A. hi many thanks for your email, a partial denture can be just for one tooth, upto i suppose all the teeth in the jaw bar one. the full denture is when there are no teeth in the jaw and so fully replaced by teeth on the denture.

Partial denture cost £200 – £1500
full denture cost £500 – £2000

hope this is helpful.

How much does an implant retained on denture cost?

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Q. Hi Dr,i am loosing my lower teeth and i am looking at a cost of implant i like to know obaut clip on denture or clip on partial can you please give price for lower clip on denture .thank you.

A. The fee for implant retained clip on dentures varies depending on the implant system used, whether the doctor performing the procedures is a qualified specialist and the type of denture made. It also varies depending on where you live. Because the fee can vary greatly I would do some research in your area to see what the approximate cost for this treatment would be. Dr. Lemongello
