I have been unknowingly grinding and clenching my teeth. And now my gums have receded and my teeth are worn down. Will grinding and clenching for years affect my bone tissue? Will my jaw start to shrink? Can I get dentures without needing a bone graft? How much would a whole mouth front and back teeth dental bone graft cost? Do you need gum grafts before getting dentures? And lastly how much would a full mouth extraction cost? I am asking all these questions to get a fix on a price. I am unemployed and on ssi and disability. I have no insurance and am looking to get a bank loan. So I need to know approximitly how much I need and what procedures are necessary.

Grinding and clenching will not affect bone health. Your jaw bone will start to shrink only after your teeth are removed. You will not need bone grafting for dentures. My advise would be to invest and preserve your remaining teeth. Dentures are not inevitable and should be avoided. It is impossible to advise you on cost. Q.
I am now in my 50s but am still yet to get rid of my fear of the dentist. I am able to go to appointments for the small things but am not keen at all on anything too painful. One of my front teeth is now in a bad state due to my fear, and the dentist has said that I will need to get a denture. I have said I don’t want this as I fear it falling out, and am wondering if an implant could be a good choice. Is this procedure able to be carried out with the patient fully asleep, or does this carry too many complications?

Hi, many thanks for your email. The main options for a gap are 1: denture 2: bridge 3:implant or 4:nothing at all. if the denture is a worry, the two fixed options would be a bridge or an implant. If feesible my advice would always be to go for an implant as its the longest lasting of the two options and most conservative.

The procedure of an implant could be performed under IV sedation, which would mean you’re unaware of the treatment while it is taking place.

I have a complete upper denture and have had this for quite some time now. However, their colour has gotten darker over time and they are not looking quite so good at the moment. Is it possible to get dentures whitened, or are there any other alternative options?

It is not possible to whiten your existing denture. Is that what you really want? As the denture material ages it starts to look artificial and collects bacteria that cannot be removed. Q.
After years of poor dental hygiene my teeth are no longer in a good condition, what with chips and cracks on my teeth, and a bad level of decay. My dentist has now informed me that I will need to get dentures, but I am not particularly keen on this. Are there any other treatment options, or will my teeth just continue to get worse if I don’t get dentures?

Hi, many thanks for your email. Until i can assess your mouth myself it is difficult to say whether this is the right treatment for you. If a denture is your only option then you could opt for implants instead, which would be a fixed alternative.

Are there different types of dentures, with some being better than others, and therefore more expensive? I am currently looking at dentures as an option but want to make sure I get the best treatment possible. Thank you.

Hi, many thanks for your email. The better quality dentures are down to a stronger accrylic being used. The quality of teeth play an important role in the overall cost of the dentures. There are also better ways of achieving a better fit and bite, using systems such as Ivoclar BPS system which also adds onto the price. My advice would be to seek a dentist that either specialises in dentures to give you all the options available. Hope this is helpful.

Hi, many thanks for your email. I would not consider valplast as top of the line. I would say that there is a place from the type of denture in certain clinical circumstances. Accrylic dentures are also good, however, again the clinical situation has to be taken into account before a decision on the type of denture used is made.

Valplast dentures should last around 10 years. The material is very strong. Hope this information is helpful.

I recently (monday) had one of my bottom front teeth out and replaced with a denture. Ever since my jaw has been aching Is this normal or should i go back to the dentist? Thanks.

Hi, many thanks for your email. There is sometimes discomfort following an extraction of a tooth. My advice would be to give it at least 3 to 4 days. If the pain is not getting any better go back and see your dentist. Hope this is helpful.
