Q.
Hi, Wonder if you can offer some guidance please? i have a large gap on my left side of my upper teeth (maybe 4 teeth missing) and have been lead to believe there is nothing i can do about it, it has been like this for a number of years now, and as a result the line of my jaw would make it impossible to fill the gap, . however having read through this web, im wondering if there is a solution to this problem? i think the gap is to big for a bridge, and i keep coming back to the same problem that my bottom teeth are possibly “in the way” and unsure how this can be resolved? this is something that is causing me a great deal of unhappiness and embarrassment, however i am not in a position to consider major cosmetic dentistry and wonder if you can guide me on how i can look to put this right, if at all ? any confidential advice would be appreciated that you can offer me to try and improve my smile Many thanks

A.
If you are missing a number of teeth the most effective way to replace them is with dental implants. If the lower teeth are in the way, you may need braces to move them or perhaps they will need to be restored in the correct position to coordinate with the upper teeth. Unfortunately, this type of dentistry can be costly. I recommend you consult with a dentist to determine your options. I am sure there is a resolution to your problem, there usually is, but you need to find the right dentist who can help you and be willing to invest the money for the best result. Dr. Lemongello

                                Hello Doctor,

I have recently had a dental implant placed at the side of my mouth and am slightly worried about its condition. I have an appointment with my dentist in a weeks time but would really appreciate any information I could receive now. Basically there has been some mild bleeding from the site and it does feel tender to touch (which i dont continually do, just when i brush it with my tongue) and I wonder does this, in your experience, sound like a rejected implant? If it is, would I be able to try again at some point or would that be too dangerous?

Thank you very much for your time

Hello there and thank you for your question. It is likely not rejecting…success rate with implants is quite high. Just see the dentist who placed it and have it evaluated. If it is rejecting it will become loose. Hope this helps and good luck with your implants

                                hello

i have a very sore tooth, which causes shooting pains if i am to bring my tongue anywhere near it. It is also a bit wobbly so i guess i am going to have to have it out. I was just wondering about the replacement options available to me once this has happened. What would you say is the best way to fill in the gap? I want something long lasting, i am a bit concerned about how much it will cost, but i will cross that bridge when i come to it

thank you

A.
The best way to replace a tooth is with a dental implant. Second choice is a fixed bridge. The negative with a bridge is that involves the adjacent teeth. Both will last a long time and are similar in cost. Visit our website www.lernerlemongello for examples of both. Done well you cannot distinguish between an implant, a bridge or natural teeth. Good luck with any treatment you decide yo have Dr. Lemongello

Q.
I had so many problems with my front tooth after a car wreak over twenty years ago. Three root canals, then a rod placement that broke three times. I’m very frustrated, However I just got a titanium implant and a temp tooth. This is supposed to heal for four mths before I get my tooth. My question is does this temp tooth have to be shorter then the two surrounding teeth? It looks ugly I’m very unhappy I have to live with this for four mths. This temp cost me five hundred dollars. I think the Dentist made a mistake when he filed it and remade it two times and went on to place it anyway. So he said it had to be shorter. When I said I was unhappy he told me he was perturbed by my unhappiness. This was the surgen actually.

A.
It is common for this tooth to be shorter than the other teeth at this stage. The reason it is shorter is so you do not bite down on it and compromise the healing of the implant. You should avoid biting on this tooth during the healing phase. It is unfortunate that you are unhappy at this time but I expect the final tooth will be more acceptable. Dr. Lemongello

I have extreme issues with my teeth and mouth. I grew up on well water and had no dental care. 15 years ago I went to a dentist to work on my mouth. I have been to numerous dentist since but everytime I go, they begin drilling, a tooth cracks they fill it temporarily and send me to another specialist and it happens again. About two years ago I quit trying to get it fixed. I have some dental insurance and can pay to get it fixed but I need to be able to go one place to fix it all. I will need extractions, implants and root canals. Can your office truly do it all or would I have to go to someone else to get the major work done. Thank you.

Unfortunately it is very difficult to complete all dental treatment in one office. No one can be an expert in everything. We do provide all aspects of reconstructive dentistry including root canals and Invisalign. The only exception is dental surgery. With surgery and implants in particular you want a specialist in surgery to provide this aspect of your care, not just a general dentist who took a weekend course. Most importantly we can act as your “quarterback” in all aspects of care and complete treatment. We can coordinate all referrals and streamline your dental visits to complete your treatment often in as little as 2 to 3 visits. Naturally we would need to start with a complete examination and consult you on your options. Once complete we can discuss a plan that is right for you. Visit our website at www.lernerlemongello.com for more information or call to schedule a consultation. It would be a pleasure to help you. Dr. Lemongello

I beleive that the best option for tooth replacement would be an implant and implant crown. This is the solution that mimics nature the closest because it replaces the root of the tooth and the crown of the tooth, so your bone support will be maintained.

Q.
I am now in my 50s but am still yet to get rid of my fear of the dentist. I am able to go to appointments for the small things but am not keen at all on anything too painful. One of my front teeth is now in a bad state due to my fear, and the dentist has said that I will need to get a denture. I have said I don’t want this as I fear it falling out, and am wondering if an implant could be a good choice. Is this procedure able to be carried out with the patient fully asleep, or does this carry too many complications?

A.
Hi, many thanks for your email. The main options for a gap are 1: denture 2: bridge 3:implant or 4:nothing at all. if the denture is a worry, the two fixed options would be a bridge or an implant. If feesible my advice would always be to go for an implant as its the longest lasting of the two options and most conservative.

The procedure of an implant could be performed under IV sedation, which would mean you’re unaware of the treatment while it is taking place.

Hope this is helpful.

While playing rugby I managed to hurt and damage one of my front teeth. The dentist has told me that I will need to have it removed and get an implant. Would you please be able to give me an estimate of how much this would all cost. Thank you in advance.

Hi, many thanks for your email. The average cost for a single tooth dental implant including crown ranges from £2000 – £3000. Hope this is helpful.
