Are my teeth supposed to feel so sensitive after having porcelain crowns fitted?

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

Q. Hey, i had two porcelain crowns fitted over a week ago on two of my front teeth, they had to replaced because my old ones were very worn, the thing is i’m experiencing some pain from them. My two front teeth feel very sensitive, painfully sensitive, is this normal? or are they just settling? Thank you for your time!

A. It is not uncommon for new crowns to be a little sensitive initially.  If it has been more than two weeks and they are still very sensitive and not improving, consult with the dentist who placed them.  Dr. Lemongello

I may need a tooth extraction, are there any alternatives to this?

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

Q. I chipped a front tooth in a accident a fortnight ago. I thought I may only needed it to be filled so i booked an appointment. Turns out i’ve damaged the nerve of that tooth! I might need a tooth extraction, are there any alternatives to this?? Thank you

A. If it is not savable, then you will have to consider a bridge or implant to replace the missing tooth.

Can I do anything to get my dental crown the same colour as the rest of my teeth?

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Q. hello, i’ve got a dental implant in and a few weeks ago i had my teeth whitened but now the implant really sticks out because it’s darker in colour. Can i do anything to get this the same colour as the rest of my teeth?

A. Unfortunately, the best solution is to have the crown re-made to the color of your whitened teeth.

I’m in dire need for a smile makeover, what do you suggest?

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Q. I hate my smile. my teeth are all rotten because of various trauma and issues and i have bad dental phobia. some teeth are remaining and the half decent ones are chipped, i’m in dire need for a smile makeover, what do you suggest? i know you can’t give me much info until a consultation etc but i need a general idea of what treatments are available for nervous patients

A. In todays modern dental offices there are many ways comfort can be achieved.  Medication can be used to reduce your anxiety or if necessary you can be sedated achieving more of a dream state that will allow you to be treated comfortable.  You might also be surprised at how easy a smile makeover can be with a highly skilled dentist.  Start by aking your friends, family and co-workers about their dentists. Check out their websites and then find a few dentists in your area and schedule a consult with each one until you find someone you like and are comfortable with.  Dr. Lemongello

Is it possible to have a full set of dental implants?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Q. I’m considering dental implants to replace my annoying dentures, can you get a full mouth set of implants? If so how much would they be? Also, would you advise doing this?

A. With todays implant technology it is possible to replace all your teeth with implants.  There are many other implant combination and restorative possibilities available as well depending on your financial situation.  The cost can vary greatly based on your location and the expertise of the dentist.  I would recommend you seek a consultation with a qualified implant specialist. What treatment can I get for tooth that is loose and discoloured?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Q. Can you please tell me what treatment there is for a tooth that feels loose and is discoloured? Price ranges wqould also be welcomed.

A. The treatment and cost will be dictated by determining why the tooth is loose.  If there is bone loss around it, it may need to be extracted.  This would require a bridge or an implant to replace it.

What is a reasonable price for two dental implants?

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Q. What would you say is a reasonable price for two dental implants Dr Lerner and Dr Lemengello. My dentist has given me an estimate but I would like to see if I am being ripper off or something. Thanks in advance

A. The fee for implant dentistry varies depending on the implant system used, whether the doctor performing the procedures is a qualified specialist and the area being restored. Implants replacing front teeth may cost more than replacing a back tooth. It also varies depending on where you live. Because the fee can vary greatly I would do some research in your area among qualified specialists to see what the approximate cost for this treatment would be.

Should I go with implants or crowns?

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Q. My dentist has told me I can have a dental crown or implants, but i dont know which one to go for. obivously money is a bit of a factor so which one is more expensive and the better option?

A. The question is unclear….crowns usually go on top of an implant…..do you mean you can have implants or a bridge?   If that is the case definitely choose the implant option.

What is this so called new all in 4 implant system?

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Q. i have just read something about all in 4 i think it was called to do with a new kind of implant sysatem for attaching dentures. do you know anything about this and how good it is? supposedly it requires fewer implants which is onyl good in my opinion as it is cheaper but can you say anything more about it?

A. I am not familiar with this system but the benefits of using traditional implants to secure dentures are proven.  If 4 implants are beyond your budget than use 2 now.  You can always add more later to gain better denture security in the future.  Make sure you only use traditional implants.  The mini implants do not have the same benefits.  Dr. Lemongello
