Can I have lingual braces if I have badly crooked teeth?

Q.
Hi, I have really crooked bottom teeth and they’re affecting my smile severely! do you think i’d be able to have lingual braces? can they fix badly crooked teeth or are they only available for mild cases? Thanks for your suggestions
A.
Lingual braces may be an option.  They are not limited to mild cases but they are limited by how much your teeth overlap each other when you bite down.  Since lingual braces go on the back of your front teeth there may not be room.  If the appearance of traditional braces is a concern another alternative may be Invisalgn.  Consult with a dentist who is certified in Invisalign to discuss your options.  Dr. Lemongello
