Are white fillings permanent, in comparison to amalgam fillings?

Q.
I had two fillings placed a long time ago and now one of them is falling out in bits, it was an amalgam filling and I believed that it was going to be permanent, I was just wondering if the white fillings are believed to be permanent? I don’t want to have to keep replacing them,
A.
Like everything else in life nothing lasts forever.  All dental restorations have a life expectancy and will need to be replaced sometime in the future.  Your natural tooth is a permanent tooth but even it didn’t last forever.  The goal is to choice the best material for the situation that will provide the longest service.  Dr. Lemongello
