What options are there to treat severe tooth overcrowding?

Q.
Hello, i have a problem of overcrwoding in my lower teeth more than 6cm as described by my doc. and he said in oredr to fix that he will have to remove one of my cebtral incisors as removing a crwon will cause my mouth to be empty because i have a small mouth. and after he does that, he will have to instill a fixed wire behind my lower teeth so as the symmerty of my teeth is not lost. i am worried about the complications of the fixed wire as it may cause dental caries and accumulation of plaque. so i need your adives regarding other possible options and your opinion on the fixed wire. thank you.
A.
In cases with severe crowding often a tooth is removed to create space to straighten the remaining teeth. Dental treatment involves some risk but if you maintain good hygiene that risk is diminished.  If you are concerned about the treatment get a second opinion with another dentist.  Dr. Lemongello

Can you tell me what exactly lava crowns are?

Q.
Hi, what exactly are lava crowns? My dentist keeps mentioning them to me and assumes that I know what they are but I don’t have a clue, what are they mainly used for? I have several teeth that need crowning you see.
A.
Lava crowns are a type of crown that are all ceramic in their design instead of having a metal substructure to them.

Are there different variations of dental veneers?

Q.
Hi i’m looking into getting veneers. My teeth are in good physical condition but they’re very stained and various teeth whitening systems have previously failed. I was wondering about the variations of veneers, I’ve heard that teeth have to be shaved and filed down? In your opinion which is the best type of veneer?
A.
The best veneer is one that is placed using the most conservative approach possible utilizing the best material for the situation.  There is no one best veneer. Instead you should choose a dentist who understands the different materials and techniques available and discuss what is the best option for you. The teeth are not shaved down.  Most porcelain veneers requires minimal tooth reshaping for the veneer to fit properly. I would invite you to visit our website at www.lernerlemongello.com. My dentist has said I cannot receive dental veneers because of my bite, is this correct?

Q.
Hello my dentist has informed me that I cannot receive dental veneers because of my bite. He said if I were to have veneers that they would just keep falling off. I do not like the surface and appearance of my teeth, any advice would be highly appreciated. Thank you.
A.
I would seek a second opinion from a qualified cosmetic restorative dentist.  Search on line under the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry or the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

I grind my teeth badly, what can I do about this?

Q.
Hi, I have a horrible habit of grinding my teeth during the day and even when I sleep. My dentist gave me a mouth guard but my teeth are already badly damaged. The mouth guard irritates me and I take it out a lot, I know it’s bad but I have some sort of ocd about it. Can you please give me some suggestions? I don’t know what to do about the situation and my teeth are getting worse! Thank you.
A.
There may be a different design of mouth guard that could be devised.  It is important to protect what you have.

Will invisalign cost me less if I only have minor issues?

Q.
I have had braces twice already, but wearing my retainer has always been a problem for me and now my teeth are beginning to shift again. Only one tooth has shifted on the top and two or three on the bottom and I want to try invisalign to try to correct the problem. But my question is since my teeth have very minor issues will invisalign cost less for me because insurance will not cover any form of braces for me again?
A.
Invisalign may be ideal for your situation. Invisalign has 2 levels of treatment.  The first is for very limited treatment and has a lower cost and the second is for more involved cases.  Consult with an Invisalgn certified dentist to see if you are a candidate for the limited less expensive treatment.  Dr. Lemongello

What treatment should I expect to receive when some of my teeth are missing and the others are chipped?

Q.
I have my two front teeth missing from a bad accident and the teeth surrounding (at the front, both bottom and top jaw) are badly chipped and one of them has turned almost black. I’m waiting to see my dentist again but I want to make sure he suggests the correct treatment for me because he always seems to get a lot of money out of me and hardly does any work. What can you suggest would fix my teeth that are in this state?
A.
Hard to tell but I can tell you that the costs for doing bridges or implants to correct the problem of missing teeth can be expensive.  But, very necessary if you want to be able to look good and eat properly.

The crown on top of the root canaled tooth keeps falling out, why is this happening?

Q.
I had root canal surgery a few months ago and a gold crown was placed on top of it. The crown keeps falling out and the tooth is extremely painful. Does this mean where I had the root canal treatment is infected? or is it something to do with my crown? My dentist said everything looks fine in the X-ray!
A.
If it is falling out all the time it is possible that the preparation may have to be changed and a new crown made.  It is also possible that there is a problem with your bite..This should be checked.
