Hello, I have a very gummy smile and it’s really getting to me because I don’t smile in photos or anything and I’m very self-conscious of it because I know people make fun of me. Can I do anything to sort this out? Gum contouring? Crown lengthening? What do you think? Thank you for any advice in advance!
A.
There are many treatment options available. Gum contouring and crown lengthening are two of them. Orthodontics and other forms of surgery may also be options depending upon the extent of the display and how much change you would like to improve your smile. Dr. Lemongello

Hi, this is just a small enquiry about the types of
sedation etc that are used in dentistry. For example would the type of anaesthetic/medication be different for a tooth extraction and a
root canal? Also, what are the risks of dental anaesthetic etc used? Thank you.
A.
Iv
sedation is always an option. Additionally tablets of certain types of relaxers can be prescribed. Very little risk with dental anesthetics.

I chipped 4 of my teeth in an accident quite badly and I really don’t want to have them extracted but they’re starting to look darker in colour and i’m worried, I’m waiting to see my dentist (next week) to see what options there are for me but what would you suggest for
chipped teeth so I could but the ideas forward to him? Thank you for your time any advice would be great.
A.
The goal would be to save your teeth. The color change may be due to a change in the health of the nerve which may require treatment. Your dentist will need to establish what options are needed to restore your teeth to health. I am confident you will find a solution. Dr. Lemongello

Hi, my teeth are pretty white naturally but i’m due to go for a photo shoot sometime soon and would like them sparkling! Would you recommend teeth whitening? Or something else? Like i said they’re pretty white now i just want them to stand out. Thanks
A.
If you are happy with your teeth and smile sounds like whitening would be a good idea to give you just a little more sparkle. Dr. Lemongello
Q.
Hi Dr Kirtley, just how important is dental flossing? Recently I am hearing in the news how important it is but I don’t do it and feel like I am lagging behind! What would you say?
A.
Only floss the teeth you want to keep….that is an old saying and is very true. Nothing replaces flossing.

Hi, i’m having horrible problems with my lingual braces. I’m not sure how it has happened but I managed to snap them in the middle and now the wire is sticking into my gum. I’m waiting to see my ortho but can you suggest I do anything till then? My mouth keeps bleeding. Thanks
A.
If possible get some orthodontic wax and put it around the end that is cutting into your gum. This should act as a cover to the broken wire. Dr. Lemongello
Q.
Hello, I had a tooth extracted a few week ago and I have noticed that it may be infected. The gums are very swollen around the tooth and it’s still bleeding (the socket) is this normal after a tooth extraction? (it was my bottom wisdom tooth) or should I go and see my dentist? I don’t want to make a fuss out of nothing. Thank you
A.
Always opt to see your dentist….this could be an infection.
Q.
Hello i’ve been wearing the lingual braces for a few months now and i’m not spotting any difference in teeth movement, how long does it take for the teeth to move? i don’t have long left with my treatment now and i’m a little concerned. Any advice would be great, thanks.
A.
Each case is individual. What may appear as minimal movement now can quickly change once the teeth do move. Also, there is no set time it takes to move teeth. Generally you are given a range like 12 months. Sometimes it takes a little less or a little more. The important thing is the result and not removing braces before treatment is complete. Give it a bit more time. Dr. Lemongello
