Q.
I had
toothache for about two weeks but it now seems to have gone. It was not too painful but was noticeable. Is this just something that happens on occassion, or could there be an underlying problem?
A.
This could be an indication of an underlying problem. I would recommend you see your dentist to have it checked. Dr. Lemongello
Q.
Its been about 3 years since I have had my braces completely off. During my treatment I had to use an expander due to the fact that I had type III Malocclusion. Ever since I’ve had my braces off however, I’ve been left with this open bite on the right side of my mouth that doesn’t seem to be closing. I want to know, will this close naturally or will I have to seek more orthodontic treatment for my bite to level out? The open side of my bite really makes my mouth look asymmetrical and affects the symmetry of my whole face, a problem I never had before braces.
A.
Unfortunately this will not correct itself on its own. You can consider additional orthodontic treatment but perhaps a restorative option would be a better depending on your needs. If you visit our website smile gallery at www.lernerlemongello.com, there is a case of an African American man with a class III anterior open bite. Also, under the media section I published an article on restoring a class III malocclusion with a restorative option. This type of treatment is very different than orthodontics and you would need to consider the advantages and disadvantages of treatment. Consult with your orthodontist for orthodontic treatment but you would need to consult with a highly trained restorative dentist if the restorative option is considered. Dr. Lemongello
Q.
hello
i have a thirteetn year old boy with crooked teeth and was wondering about the best braces for him. I want to get him something discreet and i really like the idea of invisalign but i have also seen that there is an invisalign teen and was wondering what the difference is between these two models. would this be more suitable for my son? he has all of his adult teeth and doesn’t have any rotten teeth or nothing so would you think that would be the best treatment and how is it different from normal invisalign?
thank you for help doctor and warm regards
A.
Hello and regards for taking the time to ask your question. Invisalign and Invisalign teen are essentially the same if all the adult teeth are erupted. Consult with a dentist to advise you on what is the best orthodontic treatment for your son. I hope this is of assistance to you and your son. Dr. Lemongello
Q.
I have read that children of a certain age should not use toothpaste which contains fluoride. Is there any truth to this?
A.
What you want to avoid is a young child eating the toothpaste or abusing the amount ingested. The use of toothpaste and fluoride is safe.

Q.
Can you give any advice on the kind of diet you should have for the week or so after getting
dental implants?
A.
You should avoid anything too spicy or acidic. Also, avoid anything too hard or crunchy which could traumatize the surgical area. A softer diet is generally best.

Q.
I am looking into getting my teeth whitened and have seen that you can get this done by way of bleaching or some kind of laser treatment. I would just like to know which is the safer option, and which one is more likely to give better results?
A.
To date the most predictable, safest whitening procedure is dentist supervised take home tray whitening. Laser whitening is safe and quick but is less predictable and requires follow up with take home whitening to unify and maintain the results.

Q.
Hello
i have really, really pain stains on my teeth and i have tried at home whitening kits and they haven’t worked and i was just wondering about veneers. Are they strong because i would love white teeth but obviously i would like teeth that work tooth! Is it possible to veneer an entire set of teeth, or rather the ones you can see?
thanks for taking the time to read my email and answer my question
A.
Veneers are very strong and can be used in many situations. You can veneer as many teeth as you think necessary to give you a beautiful smile. Usually, you only veneer the teeth you see. Visit our website for examples of what can be accomplished. Dr. Lemongello
Q.
How often is it recommended that you change your toothbrush? What is the limit at a push?
A.
Depending on the brand, you should replace your tooth brush every 3 months.
Q.
Does teeth whitening damage enamel? I would like to get my teeth whitened but will not if this is the case. Also, which of laser and bleach whitening is the safer option?
A.
No, bleaching does not damage the enamel of the tooth. Both laser and home bleaching techniques are safe and effective.
Q.
My tooth has fallen out and I want to get it sorted as soon as possible. There seem to be a fair few options when it comes to treatment. Would you be able to advise me as to which one is best?
A.
I beleive that the best option for tooth replacement would be an implant and implant crown. This is the solution that mimics nature the closest because it replaces the root of the tooth and the crown of the tooth, so your bone support will be maintained.
